In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[87:1] Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High.
سَبِّحِsabbiḥiGlorifyٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord,ٱلْأَعْلَىl-aʿlāthe Most High. ﴿١﴾
[87:2] He creates and shapes.
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One whoخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdفَسَوَّىٰfasawwāthen He proportioned / shaped. ﴿٢﴾
[87:3] He designs and guides.
وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhīAnd the One whoقَدَّرَqaddaraHe measured / designedفَهَدَىٰfahadāthen He guided. ﴿٣﴾
[87:4] He produces the pasture.
وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhīAnd the One whoأَخْرَجَakhrajaHe producedٱلْمَرْعَىٰl-marʿāthe pasture. ﴿٤﴾
[87:5] Then turns it into light hay.
فَجَعَلَهُۥfajaʿalahuThen He made itغُثَآءًghuthāandead leaves / light hay أَحْوَىٰaḥwādark. ﴿٥﴾
[87:6] We will recite to you; do not forget.
سَنُقْرِئُكَsanuq'ri-ukaWe will recite to youفَلَاfalāso (do) notتَنسَىٰٓtansāyou forget. ﴿٦﴾
[87:7] Everything is in accordance with GOD's will; He knows what is declared, and what is hidden.
إِلَّاillāExceptمَاmāwhatشَآءَshāa[He] willedٱللَّهُl-lahuGod;إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, Heيَعْلَمُyaʿlamu[He] knowsٱلْجَهْرَl-jahrathe declaredوَمَاwamāand whatيَخْفَىٰyakhfāit is hidden. ﴿٧﴾
[87:8] We will direct you to the easiest path.
وَنُيَسِّرُكَwanuyassirukaAnd we will ease youلِلْيُسْرَىٰlil'yus'rāto the ease. ﴿٨﴾
[87:9] Therefore, you shall remind; perhaps the reminder will benefit.
فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirSo remind,إِنinIndeedنَّفَعَتِnafaʿati[it] benefitedٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminder. ﴿٩﴾
[87:10] The reverent will take heed.
سَيَذَّكَّرُsayadhakkaruHe will take heedمَنman(one) whoيَخْشَىٰyakhshāhe is reverent. ﴿١٠﴾
[87:11] The wicked will avoid it.
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَاwayatajannabuhāAnd [he] will avoid itٱلْأَشْقَىl-ashqāthe most wicked. ﴿١١﴾
[87:12] Consequently, he will suffer the great Hellfire.
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one whoيَصْلَىyaṣlā[he] will burnٱلنَّارَl-nāra(in) the Fireٱلْكُبْرَىٰl-kub'rāthe great. ﴿١٢﴾
[87:13] Wherein he never dies, nor stays alive.
ثُمَّthummaThenلَاlānotيَمُوتُyamūtuhe diesفِيهَاfīhāthereinوَلَاwalāand notيَحْيَىٰyaḥyāhe will live. ﴿١٣﴾
[87:14] Successful indeed is the one who redeems his soul.
قَدْqadIndeed,أَفْلَحَaflaḥasuccessfulمَنman(one) whoتَزَكَّىٰtazakkāhe purified himself (redeems his soul). ﴿١٤﴾
[87:15] By remembering the name of his Lord, and observing the contact prayers (Salat).
وَذَكَرَwadhakaraAnd he rememberedٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lordفَصَلَّىٰfaṣallāand he prayed. ﴿١٥﴾
[87:16] Indeed, you are preoccupied with this first life.
بَلْbalNay!تُؤْثِرُونَtu'thirūnaYou [all] preferٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe life (of)ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world. ﴿١٦﴾
[87:17] Even though the Hereafter is far better and everlasting.
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُwal-ākhiratuWhile the Hereafter (is)خَيْرٌkhayrunbetterوَأَبْقَىٰٓwa-abqāand everlasting. ﴿١٧﴾
[87:18] This is recorded in the earlier teachings.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,هَـٰذَاhādhāthis (is)لَفِىlafīsurely inٱلصُّحُفِl-ṣuḥufithe scriptures / writings / teachingsٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe former. ﴿١٨﴾
[87:19] The teachings of Abraham and Moses.
صُحُفِṣuḥufi(The) scriptures / writings / teachings (of)إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaAbrahamوَمُوسَىٰwamūsāand Moses. ﴿١٩﴾
