In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[71:1] We sent Noah to his people: "You shall warn your people before a painful retribution afflicts them."
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, weأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā[we] sentنُوحًاnūḥanNoahإِلَىٰilātoقَوْمِهِۦٓqawmihihis people,أَنْanthatأَنذِرْandhir"Warnقَوْمَكَqawmakayour peopleمِنminfromقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنanthatيَأْتِيَهُمْyatiyahum[it] comes to themعَذَابٌʿadhābuna retributionأَلِيمٌalīmunpainful." ﴿١﴾
[71:2] He said, "O my people, I am a manifest warner to you.
قَالَqālaHe said,يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmi"O my people!إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]نَذِيرٌnadhīruna warnerمُّبِينٌmubīnunmanifest. ﴿٢﴾
[71:3] "To alert you that you shall worship GOD, reverence Him, and obey me.
أَنِani"Thatٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūworship [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGod,وَٱتَّقُوهُwa-ittaqūhuand reverence Him [you all]وَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿٣﴾
[71:4] "He will then forgive you your sins and respite you for a predetermined period. Most assuredly, GOD's appointment can never be delayed, once it is due, if you only knew."
يَغْفِرْyaghfir"He will forgiveلَكُمlakumfor you [all]مِّنminofذُنُوبِكُمْdhunūbikumyour sinsوَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْwayu-akhir'kumand He will respite you [all]إِلَىٰٓilāforأَجَلٍajalinan appointed termمُّسَمًّىmusammanpredetermined.إِنَّinnaIndeed,أَجَلَajalaan appointed termٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,إِذَاidhāwhen [in the future]جَآءَjāait came / arrivedلَاlānotيُؤَخَّرُyu-akharuit delays,لَوْlawifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] [happen]تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna[you all] know." ﴿٤﴾
[71:5] He said, "My Lord, I have invited my people night and day.
قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!إِنِّىinnīIndeed, Iدَعَوْتُdaʿawtu[I] invitedقَوْمِىqawmīmy peopleلَيْلًاlaylannightوَنَهَارًاwanahāranand day. ﴿٥﴾
[71:6] "But my invitation only increased their aversion.
فَلَمْfalam"But notيَزِدْهُمْyazid'hum[it] increases themدُعَآءِىٓduʿāīmy invitationإِلَّاillāexceptفِرَارًاfirāran(in) flight. ﴿٦﴾
[71:7] "Whenever I invited them to be forgiven by You, they placed their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their clothes, insisted, and turned arrogant.
وَإِنِّىwa-innī"And indeed, [I]كُلَّمَاkullamāevery time,دَعَوْتُهُمْdaʿawtuhumI invited themلِتَغْفِرَlitaghfirathat You may forgiveلَهُمْlahum[for] them,جَعَلُوٓا۟jaʿalūthey put / placedأَصَـٰبِعَهُمْaṣābiʿahumtheir fingersفِىٓfīinءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir earsوَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟wa-is'taghshawand they sought to cover (themselves)ثِيَابَهُمْthiyābahum(with) their clothesوَأَصَرُّوا۟wa-aṣarrūand they persisted / insistedوَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟wa-is'takbarūand they were arrogantٱسْتِكْبَارًاis'tik'bāranprideful. ﴿٧﴾
[71:8] "Then I invited them publicly.
ثُمَّthumma"Thenإِنِّىinnīindeed, Iدَعَوْتُهُمْdaʿawtuhum[I] invited themجِهَارًاjihāranpublicly. ﴿٨﴾
[71:9] "Then I proclaimed to them loudly, and I spoke to them privately.
ثُمَّthumma"Thenإِنِّىٓinnīindeed, Iأَعْلَنتُaʿlantu[I] proclaimed publiclyلَهُمْlahumto themوَأَسْرَرْتُwa-asrartuand I confidedلَهُمْlahumto themإِسْرَارًاis'rāranprivately, ﴿٩﴾
[71:10] "I said, 'Implore your Lord for forgiveness; He is Forgiving.
فَقُلْتُfaqul'tu"Then I said,ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟is'taghfirū 'Ask forgiveness [you all]رَبَّكُمْrabbakum(from) your Lord.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, HeكَانَkānaisغَفَّارًاghaffāranForgiving. ﴿١٠﴾
[71:11] "'He will then shower you generously with rain.
يُرْسِلِyur'sili" 'He will send (down)ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāa(from) the skyعَلَيْكُمʿalaykumupon you [all]مِّدْرَارًاmid'rāranabundant rain. ﴿١١﴾
[71:12] " 'And provide you with money and children, and orchards, and streams.' "
وَيُمْدِدْكُمwayum'did'kum" 'And He will increase / provide you [all]بِأَمْوَٰلٍbi-amwālinwith wealth / moneyوَبَنِينَwabanīnaand children,وَيَجْعَلwayajʿaland He will makeلَّكُمْlakumfor you [all]جَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensوَيَجْعَلwayajʿaland He will makeلَّكُمْlakumfor you [all]أَنْهَـٰرًاanhāranrivers / streams.' " ﴿١٢﴾
[71:13] Why should you not strive to reverence GOD?
مَّاmāWhat (is)لَكُمْlakumfor you [all],لَاlānotتَرْجُونَtarjūnayou [all] expectلِلَّهِlillahito Godوَقَارًاwaqāranrespect / reverence? ﴿١٣﴾
[71:14] He is the One who created you in stages.
وَقَدْwaqadAnd indeed,خَلَقَكُمْkhalaqakumHe created you [all]أَطْوَارًاaṭwāran(in) stages. ﴿١٤﴾
[71:15] Do you not realize that GOD created seven universes in layers?
أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَوْا۟tarawyou [all] seeكَيْفَkayfahowخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdٱللَّهُl-lahuGodسَبْعَsabʿa(the) sevenسَمَـٰوَٰتٍsamāwātinheavens / universesطِبَاقًاṭibāqan(in) layers, ﴿١٥﴾
[71:16] He designed the moon therein to be a light, and placed the sun to be a lamp.
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaAnd He madeٱلْقَمَرَl-qamarathe moonفِيهِنَّfīhinnathereinنُورًاnūrana lightوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He madeٱلشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sunسِرَاجًاsirājana lamp? ﴿١٦﴾
[71:17] And GOD germinated you from the earth like plants.
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Godأَنۢبَتَكُمanbatakum[He] caused you [all] to grow / germinatedمِّنَminafromٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthنَبَاتًاnabātan(as) a growth / plant. ﴿١٧﴾
[71:18] Then He returns you into it, and He will surely bring you out.
ثُمَّthummaThenيُعِيدُكُمْyuʿīdukumHe will return you [all]فِيهَاfīhāinto itوَيُخْرِجُكُمْwayukh'rijukumand He will bring you [all] out,إِخْرَاجًاikh'rājan(a new) bringing out. ﴿١٨﴾
[71:19] GOD made the earth habitable for you.
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd GodجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeلَكُمُlakumufor you [all]ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthبِسَاطًاbisāṭanan expanse, ﴿١٩﴾
[71:20] That you may build roads therein.
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟litaslukūThat you [all] may go alongمِنْهَاmin'hāthereinسُبُلًاsubulan(in) roadsفِجَاجًاfijājanwide [pathways]." ﴿٢٠﴾
[71:21] Noah said, "My Lord, they disobeyed me, and followed those who were even more corrupted when blessed with money and children.
قَالَqāla[He] saidنُوحٌnūḥunNoah,رَّبِّrabbi"My Lord!إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyعَصَوْنِىʿaṣawnī[they] disobeyed meوَٱتَّبَعُوا۟wa-ittabaʿūand they followedمَنman(the one) who,لَّمْlamnotيَزِدْهُyazid'hu[it] increases himمَالُهُۥmāluhuhis wealth,وَوَلَدُهُۥٓwawaladuhuand his childrenإِلَّاillāexceptخَسَارًاkhasāran(in) loss. ﴿٢١﴾
[71:22] "They schemed terrible schemes.
وَمَكَرُوا۟wamakarū"And they schemed, مَكْرًاmakrana schemeكُبَّارًاkubbārangreat. ﴿٢٢﴾
[71:23] "They said, 'Do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, Suwaa', Yaghouth, Ya'ooq, and Nasr.'
وَقَالُوا۟waqālū"And they said,لَاlā '(Do) notتَذَرُنَّtadharunnayou [all] leave / abandonءَالِهَتَكُمْālihatakumyour gods,وَلَاwalāand (do) notتَذَرُنَّtadharunnayou [all] leave / abandonوَدًّاwaddanWaddوَلَاwalāand notسُوَاعًاsuwāʿanSuwaaوَلَاwalāand notيَغُوثَyaghūthaYaghouthوَيَعُوقَwayaʿūqaand Ya'ooqوَنَسْرًاwanasranand Nasr.' ﴿٢٣﴾
[71:24] "They misled many. Therefore, let the wicked plunge deeper into loss."
وَقَدْwaqad"And indeed,أَضَلُّوا۟aḍallūthey misledكَثِيرًاkathīranmany.وَلَاwalāAnd notتَزِدِtazidiit increasesٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersإِلَّاillāexceptضَلَـٰلًاḍalālan(in) error / astray." ﴿٢٤﴾
[71:25] Because of their sins they were drowned and assigned to the hellfire. They found no helpers to protect them from GOD.
مِّمَّاmimmāBecause ofخَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْkhaṭīātihimtheir sinsأُغْرِقُوا۟ugh'riqūthey were drowned,فَأُدْخِلُوا۟fa-ud'khilūthen they were made to enterنَارًاnāran(the) Fire,فَلَمْfalamand notيَجِدُوا۟yajidūthey findلَهُمlahumfor them(selves)مِّنminfromدُونِdūnibesides / againstٱللَّهِl-lahiGodأَنصَارًاanṣāranany helpers. ﴿٢٥﴾
[71:26] Noah also said, "My Lord, do not leave a single disbeliever on earth.
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd [he] saidنُوحٌnūḥunNoah,رَّبِّrabbi"My Lord!لَاlā(Do) notتَذَرْtadharYou leaveعَلَىʿalāonٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthمِنَminaany (of)ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelieversدَيَّارًاdayyāran(as) an inhabitant. ﴿٢٦﴾
[71:27] "For if you let them, they will only mislead your servants and give birth to nothing but wicked disbelievers.
إِنَّكَinnaka"Indeed, You,إِنinifتَذَرْهُمْtadharhumYou leave themيُضِلُّوا۟yuḍillūthey will misleadعِبَادَكَʿibādakaYour servantsوَلَاwalāand notيَلِدُوٓا۟yalidūthey will begetإِلَّاillāexceptفَاجِرًاfājiranwickedكَفَّارًاkaffārandisbelievers. ﴿٢٧﴾
[71:28] "My Lord, forgive me and my parents, and anyone who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. But do not give the disbelievers anything but annihilation."
رَّبِّrabbi"My Lord!ٱغْفِرْigh'firForgiveلِىlīmeوَلِوَٰلِدَىَّwaliwālidayyaand [for] my parents,وَلِمَنwalimanand [for] whoeverدَخَلَdakhalahe enteredبَيْتِىَbaytiyamy houseمُؤْمِنًاmu'minan(as) a believerوَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَwalil'mu'minīnaand [for] the believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing women.وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَزِدِtazidiYou increaseٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers (disbelievers)إِلَّاillāexceptتَبَارًۢاtabāran(in) annihilation." ﴿٢٨﴾
