In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[61:1] Glorifying GOD is everything in the heavens and everything on earth. He is the Almighty, Most Wise.
سَبَّحَsabbaḥaIt declared the gloryلِلَّهِlillahifor Godمَاmāwhateverفِىfīinٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth.وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuMost Wise. ﴿١﴾
[61:2] O you who believe, why do you say what you do not do?
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believed!لِمَlimaWhy (do)تَقُولُونَtaqūlūnayou [all] sayمَاmāwhatلَاlānotتَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou [all] do? ﴿٢﴾
[61:3] Most abominable in the sight of GOD is that you say what you do not do.
كَبُرَkabura[It] is greatمَقْتًاmaqtanhatred / abhorrenceعِندَʿindain the sight ofٱللَّهِl-lahiGodأَنanthatتَقُولُوا۟taqūlūyou [all] sayمَاmāwhatلَاlānotتَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou [all] do? ﴿٣﴾
[61:4] GOD loves those who fight in His cause united in one column, like the bricks in one wall.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodيُحِبُّyuḥibbuHe lovesٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُقَـٰتِلُونَyuqātilūna[they] fightفِىfīinسَبِيلِهِۦsabīlihiHis causeصَفًّاṣaffan(in) a rank / row / line / column,كَأَنَّهُمka-annahumas if they wereبُنْيَـٰنٌbun'yānuna structure / building / wallمَّرْصُوصٌmarṣūṣunjoined firmly. ﴿٤﴾
[61:5] Recall that Moses said to his people, "O my people, why do you hurt me, even though you know that I am GOD's messenger to you?" When they deviated, GOD diverted their hearts. For GOD does not guide the wicked people.
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when / recallقَالَqāla[he] saidمُوسَىٰmūsāMosesلِقَوْمِهِۦliqawmihito his people,يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmi"O my people!لِمَlimaWhy (do)تُؤْذُونَنِىtu'dhūnanīyou [all] hurt meوَقَدwaqadwhile certainlyتَّعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou [all] knowأَنِّىannīthat I amرَسُولُrasūlu(the) messengerٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Godإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you [all]?"فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenزَاغُوٓا۟zāghūthey deviated,أَزَاغَazāgha[He] divertedٱللَّهُl-lahuGodقُلُوبَهُمْqulūbahumtheir hearts.وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd GodلَاlānotيَهْدِىyahdīHe guidesٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people,ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَl-fāsiqīnathe defiantly disobedient / wicked [ones]. ﴿٥﴾
Messenger After Jesus
[61:6] Recall that Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, I am GOD's messenger to you, confirming the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me whose name will be even more praised (Ahmad)." Then, when he showed them the clear proofs, they said, "This is profound magic."
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when / recallقَالَqāla[he] saidعِيسَىʿīsāJesus,ٱبْنُub'nuson (of)مَرْيَمَmaryamaMary,يَـٰبَنِىٓyābanī"O Children (of)إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaIsrael!إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I amرَسُولُrasūlua messenger (of)ٱللَّهِl-lahiGodإِلَيْكُمilaykumto you [all],مُّصَدِّقًاmuṣaddiqanconfirmingلِّمَاlimāthat whichبَيْنَbayna between / before*يَدَىَّyadayyamy hands (*before)مِنَminaofٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِl-tawrātithe Torahوَمُبَشِّرًۢاwamubashiranand a bearer of good newsبِرَسُولٍbirasūlinof a messengerيَأْتِىyatīhe to comeمِنۢminfromبَعْدِىbaʿdīafter me,ٱسْمُهُۥٓus'muhuhis name (will be)أَحْمَدُaḥmadumore praised / Ahmad."فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَآءَهُمjāahumhe came to themبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith the clear proofs,قَالُوا۟qālūthey said,هَـٰذَاhādhā"This (is)سِحْرٌsiḥ'runa magicمُّبِينٌmubīnunprofound." ﴿٦﴾
[61:7] Who is more evil than one who fabricates lies about GOD, and he is being invited to Submission? GOD does not guide the evil people.
وَمَنْwamanAnd who (is)أَظْلَمُaẓlamumore wrongمِمَّنِmimmanithan (one) whoٱفْتَرَىٰif'tarāhe fabricatedعَلَىʿalāuponٱللَّهِl-lahiGodٱلْكَذِبَl-kadhibathe lieوَهُوَwahuwawhile heيُدْعَىٰٓyud'ʿā[he] is invitedإِلَىilātoٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِl-is'lāmi[the] Submission?وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd GodلَاlānotيَهْدِىyahdīHe guidesٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers / evil [ones]. ﴿٧﴾
[61:8] They wish to put out GOD's light with their mouths. But GOD insists upon perfecting His light, in spite of the disbelievers.
يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnaThey intend / wishلِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟liyuṭ'fiūthat they may put outنُورَnūra(the) light (of)ٱللَّهِl-lahiGodبِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْbi-afwāhihimwith their mouths,وَٱللَّهُwal-lahubut God (is)مُتِمُّmutimmuOne who will complete / perfectنُورِهِۦnūrihiHis Lightوَلَوْwalaweven thoughكَرِهَkariha[he] disliked (it)ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers. ﴿٨﴾
The Great Prophecy
[61:9] He has sent His messenger* with the guidance and the true religion, and will make it dominate all religions, in spite of the idol worshipers.
هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One whoأَرْسَلَarsalaHe sentرَسُولَهُۥrasūlahuHis messengerبِٱلْهُدَىٰbil-hudāwith [the] guidanceوَدِينِwadīniand (the) religion (of)ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth,لِيُظْهِرَهُۥliyuẓ'hirahuthat He may make it dominateعَلَىʿalāoverٱلدِّينِl-dīnithe religionكُلِّهِۦkullihiall of it,وَلَوْwalaweven thoughكَرِهَkariha[he] disliked (it)ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَl-mush'rikūnathe polytheists / idol worshipers. ﴿٩﴾
*61:9 The specific name of this messenger is spelled out mathematically (Appendix 2).
The Best Deal
[61:10] O you who believe, let Me inform you of a trade that will save you from painful retribution.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believed!هَلْhalShallأَدُلُّكُمْadullukumI show / direct / inform you [all]عَلَىٰʿalātoتِجَـٰرَةٍtijāratina transactionتُنجِيكُمtunjīkumit will save you [all]مِّنْminfromعَذَابٍʿadhābina retributionأَلِيمٍalīminpainful? ﴿١٠﴾
[61:11] Believe in GOD and His messenger and strive in the cause of GOD with your money and your lives. This is the best deal for you, if you only knew.
تُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnaYou [all] believeبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Godوَرَسُولِهِۦwarasūlihiand His messengerوَتُجَـٰهِدُونَwatujāhidūnaand you [all] striveفِىfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) cause (of)ٱللَّهِl-lahiGodبِأَمْوَٰلِكُمْbi-amwālikumwith your wealthوَأَنفُسِكُمْwa-anfusikumand your lives.ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumThat [you all] (is)خَيْرٌkhayrunbetterلَّكُمْlakumfor you [all]إِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all are]تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna[you all] know. ﴿١١﴾
[61:12] In return, He forgives your sins, and admits you into gardens with flowing streams, with beautiful mansions in the gardens of Eden. This is the greatest triumph.
يَغْفِرْyaghfirHe will forgiveلَكُمْlakumfor you [all]ذُنُوبَكُمْdhunūbakumyour sinsوَيُدْخِلْكُمْwayud'khil'kumand He will admit you [all] (in)جَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensتَجْرِىtajrīit flowsمِنminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers / streamsوَمَسَـٰكِنَwamasākinaand dwellings / mansionsطَيِّبَةًṭayyibatanpleasant / pure / good (beautiful)فِىfīinجَنَّـٰتِjannātigardens (of)عَدْنٍʿadninEden.ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat (is)ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzuthe triumphٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe greatest. ﴿١٢﴾
[61:13] Additionally, you get something you truly love: support from GOD and guaranteed victory. Give good news to the believers.
وَأُخْرَىٰwa-ukh'rāAnd another (thing)تُحِبُّونَهَاtuḥibbūnahāyou [all] love itنَصْرٌnaṣrunhelp / supportمِّنَminafromٱللَّهِl-lahiGodوَفَتْحٌwafatḥunand a victoryقَرِيبٌqarībunnear;وَبَشِّرِwabashiriand give good news (to)ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers. ﴿١٣﴾
[61:14] O you who believe, be GOD's supporters, like the disciples of Jesus, son of Mary. When he said to them, "Who are my supporters towards GOD," they said, "We are GOD's supporters." Thus, a group from the Children of Israel believed, and another group disbelieved. We helped those who believed against their enemy, until they won.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believed!كُونُوٓا۟kūnūBe [you all]أَنصَارَanṣārahelpers / supportersٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Godكَمَاkamālike whatقَالَqāla[he] saidعِيسَىʿīsāJesus,ٱبْنُub'nuson (of)مَرْيَمَmaryamaMary,لِلْحَوَارِيِّـۧنَlil'ḥawāriyyīnato the disciples,مَنْman"Who (are)أَنصَارِىٓanṣārīmy helpers / supportersإِلَىilātowardsٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?"قَالَqāla[He] saidٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَl-ḥawāriyūnathe disciples,نَحْنُnaḥnu"We (are)أَنصَارُanṣāruhelpers / supportersٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God."فَـَٔامَنَتfaāmanatThen [it] believedطَّآئِفَةٌṭāifatuna groupمِّنۢminofبَنِىٓbanīChildren (of)إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaIsraelوَكَفَرَتwakafaratand [it] disbelievedطَّآئِفَةٌṭāifatuna group.فَأَيَّدْنَاfa-ayyadnāSo we supported / helpedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believedعَلَىٰʿalāagainstعَدُوِّهِمْʿaduwwihimtheir enemyفَأَصْبَحُوا۟fa-aṣbaḥūand they becameظَـٰهِرِينَẓāhirīnadominant [ones]. ﴿١٤﴾
