Sura 67: Al-Mulk (Kingship) الملك

Sura 67 - Al-Mulk
In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[67:1] Most exalted is the One in whose hands is all kingship, and He is Omnipotent.
تَبَـٰرَكَtabārakaHe is Blessed / Exaltedٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoبِيَدِهِbiyadihiin His Hand (is)ٱلْمُلْكُl-mul'kuall kingship,وَهُوَwahuwaand He (is)عَلَىٰʿalāoverكُلِّkullieveryشَىْءٍshayinthingقَدِيرٌqadīrunOmnipotent. ﴿١﴾
The Purpose of Our Life*
[67:2] The One who created death and life for the purpose of distinguishing those among you who would do better.* He is the Almighty, the Forgiving.
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One whoخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdٱلْمَوْتَl-mawta[the] deathوَٱلْحَيَوٰةَwal-ḥayataand the lifeلِيَبْلُوَكُمْliyabluwakumthat He may test you [all],أَيُّكُمْayyukumwhich of you [all] (is)أَحْسَنُaḥsanubestعَمَلًاʿamalan(in) deeds.وَهُوَwahuwaand He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūruthe Forgiving. ﴿٢﴾

[67:3] He created seven universes in layers. You do not see any imperfection in the creation by the Most Gracious. Keep looking; do you see any flaw?
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One whoخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdسَبْعَsabʿasevenسَمَـٰوَٰتٍsamāwātinheavens / universesطِبَاقًاṭibāqanone above another / in layers.مَّاNotتَرَىٰtarāyou seeفِىinخَلْقِkhalqi(the) creation (of)ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousمِنminanyتَفَـٰوُتٍtafāwutinfault / slip / imperfection.فَٱرْجِعِfa-ir'jiʿiSo return*ٱلْبَصَرَl-baṣarathe eyes (*keep looking)هَلْhalcanتَرَىٰtarāyou seeمِنminanyفُطُورٍfuṭūringlitch / crack / flaw? ﴿٣﴾
[67:4] Look again and again; your eyes will come back stumped and conquered.
ثُمَّthummaThenٱرْجِعِir'jiʿireturn*ٱلْبَصَرَl-baṣarathe eyes (*keep looking)كَرَّتَيْنِkarratayniagain and yet again.يَنقَلِبْyanqalib[It] will returnإِلَيْكَilaykato youٱلْبَصَرُl-baṣaruthe eyesخَاسِئًاkhāsi-andazzledوَهُوَwahuwawhile it (is)حَسِيرٌḥasīrunworn out. ﴿٤﴾
[67:5] We adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and guarded its borders with projectiles against the devils; we prepared for them a retribution in Hell.
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyزَيَّنَّاzayyannāwe adornedٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe heavenٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe lowestبِمَصَـٰبِيحَbimaṣābīḥawith lamps,وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَاwajaʿalnāhāand we made itرُجُومًاrujūman(as) projectilesلِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِlilshayāṭīnifor the devils,وَأَعْتَدْنَاwa-aʿtadnāand we preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابَʿadhābaretribution (of)ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīrithe Blaze / Hell. ﴿٥﴾
[67:6] For those who disbelieved in their Lord, the retribution of Gehenna. What a miserable destiny.
وَلِلَّذِينَwalilladhīnaAnd for those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelievedبِرَبِّهِمْbirabbihimin their Lord (is)عَذَابُʿadhābu(the) retribution (of)جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell,وَبِئْسَwabi'saand miserable (is)ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destiny. ﴿٦﴾
[67:7] When they get thrown therein, they hear its furor as it fumes.
إِذَآidhāWhen [in the future]أُلْقُوا۟ul'qūthey were thrownفِيهَاfīhātherein,سَمِعُوا۟samiʿūthey heardلَهَاlahāfrom itشَهِيقًاshahīqan(its) furorوَهِىَwahiyawhile itتَفُورُtafūru[it] flares up / boils up / fumes. ﴿٧﴾
[67:8] It almost explodes from rage. Whenever a group is thrown therein, its guards would ask them, "Did you not receive a warner?"
تَكَادُtakāduIt almostتَمَيَّزُtamayyazu[it] bursts / explodesمِنَminafromٱلْغَيْظِl-ghayẓi[the] rage.كُلَّمَآkullamāEvery timeأُلْقِىَul'qiya[it] was thrown downفِيهَاfīhāthereinفَوْجٌfawjuna group,سَأَلَهُمْsa-alahum[he] (will) ask themخَزَنَتُهَآkhazanatuhāits keepers / guards,أَلَمْalam"Did notيَأْتِكُمْyatikum[he] come to you [all]نَذِيرٌnadhīruna warner?" ﴿٨﴾
[67:9] They would answer, "Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we disbelieved and said, 'GOD did not reveal anything. You are totally astray.'"
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,بَلَىٰbalā"Yes,قَدْqadindeedجَآءَنَاjāanā[he] came to usنَذِيرٌnadhīruna warner,فَكَذَّبْنَاfakadhabnābut we denied / disbelievedوَقُلْنَاwaqul'nāand we said,مَا 'Notنَزَّلَnazzala[He] sent down / revealedٱللَّهُl-lahuGodمِنminanyشَىْءٍshayinthing.إِنْinNotأَنتُمْantumyou [all] (are)إِلَّاillābutفِىinضَلَـٰلٍḍalālinastrayكَبِيرٍkabīringreat.' " ﴿٩﴾
[67:10] They also say, "If we heard or understood, we would not be among the dwellers of Hell!"
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they said,لَوْlaw"Ifكُنَّاkunnāwe used toنَسْمَعُnasmaʿu[we] hearأَوْaworنَعْقِلُnaʿqilu[we] understand,مَاnotكُنَّاkunnāwe (would) beفِىٓamongأَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi(the) companions / dwellers (of)ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīrithe Blaze / Hell." ﴿١٠﴾
[67:11] Thus, they confessed their sins. Woe to the dwellers of Hell.
فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟fa-iʿ'tarafūThen they recognized / confessedبِذَنۢبِهِمْbidhanbihimfor their sin,فَسُحْقًاfasuḥ'qanso be far away far removedلِّأَصْحَـٰبِli-aṣḥābi[for] (the) companions / dwellers (of)ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīrithe Blaze / Hell. ﴿١١﴾
[67:12] As for those who reverence their Lord, when alone in their privacy, they have attained forgiveness and a great recompense.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَخْشَوْنَyakhshawnathey reverenceرَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lordبِٱلْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiin [the] private,لَهُمlahumfor them (is)مَّغْفِرَةٌmaghfiratunforgivenessوَأَجْرٌwa-ajrunand a reward / recompenseكَبِيرٌkabīrungreat. ﴿١٢﴾
[67:13] Whether you keep your utterances secret, or declare them, He is fully aware of the innermost thoughts.
وَأَسِرُّوا۟wa-asirrūAnd conceal [you all]قَوْلَكُمْqawlakumyour speechأَوِawiorٱجْهَرُوا۟ij'harūdeclare [you all]بِهِۦٓbihiit.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He (is)عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmunfully awareبِذَاتِbidhātiof (what) [it] possessedٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūrithe hearts / minds. ﴿١٣﴾
[67:14] Should He not know what He created? He is the Sublime, Most Cognizant.
أَلَاalāDoes notيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knowمَنْmanwhoخَلَقَkhalaqaHe created?وَهُوَwahuwaand He (is)ٱللَّطِيفُl-laṭīfuthe Sublime,ٱلْخَبِيرُl-khabīruMost Cognizant. ﴿١٤﴾
[67:15] He is the One who put the Earth at your service. Roam its corners, and eat from His provisions. To Him is the final summoning.
هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeلَكُمُlakumufor you [all]ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe Earthذَلُولًاdhalūlansubservient,فَٱمْشُوا۟fa-im'shūso walk / roam [you all]فِىinمَنَاكِبِهَاmanākibihā(the) spacious paths / regions / corners thereof وَكُلُوا۟wakulūand eat [you all]مِنminofرِّزْقِهِۦriz'qihiHis provision.وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiAnd to Him (is)ٱلنُّشُورُl-nushūruthe resurrection / summoning. ﴿١٥﴾
[67:16] Have you guaranteed that the One in heaven will not strike the earth and cause it to tumble?
ءَأَمِنتُمa-amintumHave you [all] felt secure (*Have you guaranteed)مَّنmanHeفِىinٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavenأَنanlestيَخْسِفَyakhsifaHe will cause to swallowبِكُمُbikumu[of] you [all]ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthفَإِذَاfa-idhāthen whenهِىَhiyaitتَمُورُtamūru[it] sways / shakes? ﴿١٦﴾
[67:17] Have you guaranteed that the One in heaven will not send upon you a violent storm? Will you then appreciate the value of My warning?
أَمْamOr doأَمِنتُمamintumyou [all] felt secure (*have you guaranteed)مَّنmanHeفِىinٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven,أَنanlestيُرْسِلَyur'silaHe sendsعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumagainst you [all]حَاصِبًاḥāṣibana tornado / violent storm?فَسَتَعْلَمُونَfasataʿlamūnaThen you [all] will knowكَيْفَkayfahow (was)نَذِيرِnadhīriMy warning? ﴿١٧﴾
[67:18] Others before them have disbelieved; how terrible was My requital!
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeed,كَذَّبَkadhaba[he] denied / disbelievedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathoseمِنminfromقَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore them,فَكَيْفَfakayfathen howكَانَkānawasنَكِيرِnakīriMy disapproval / rejection / requital. ﴿١٨﴾
[67:19] Have they not seen the birds above them lined up in columns and spreading their wings? The Most Gracious is the One who holds them in the air. He is Seer of all things.
أَوَلَمْawalamDo notيَرَوْا۟yarawthey seeإِلَىilātoٱلطَّيْرِl-ṭayrithe birdsفَوْقَهُمْfawqahumabove themصَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍṣāffātinwings spread / arranged in rows or linesوَيَقْبِضْنَwayaqbiḍ'naand they folding (wings)?مَاNotيُمْسِكُهُنَّyum'sikuhunnahe holds themإِلَّاillāexceptٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most Gracious.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He (is)بِكُلِّbikulliof everyشَىْءٍۭshayinthingبَصِيرٌbaṣīrunSeer. ﴿١٩﴾
[67:20] Where are those soldiers who can help you against the Most Gracious? Indeed, the disbelievers are deceived.
أَمَّنْammanOr who (is)هَـٰذَاhādhāthis,ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one whoهُوَhuwahe (has)جُندٌjundunsoldiersلَّكُمْlakumfor you [all]يَنصُرُكُمyanṣurukum(that) he helps you [all]مِّنminfromدُونِdūniagainstٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Gracious?إِنِiniNot (are)ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelieversإِلَّاillābutفِىinغُرُورٍghurūrindelusion. ﴿٢٠﴾
[67:21] Who is there to provide for you, if He withholds His provisions? Indeed, they have plunged deep into transgression and aversion.
أَمَّنْammanOr who (is)هَـٰذَاhādhāthis,ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one whoيَرْزُقُكُمْyarzuqukumhe provide (for) you [all]إِنْinifأَمْسَكَamsakaHe withheldرِزْقَهُۥriz'qahuHis provision.بَلbalNay,لَّجُّوا۟lajjūthey persistedفِىinعُتُوٍّʿutuwwinpride / transgressionوَنُفُورٍwanufūrinand aversion. ﴿٢١﴾
[67:22] Is one who walks while slumped over on his face better guided, or one who walks straight on the right path?
أَفَمَنafamanThen is he whoيَمْشِىyamshī[he] walksمُكِبًّاmukibban[one] fallenعَلَىٰʿalāonوَجْهِهِۦٓwajhihihis faceأَهْدَىٰٓahdābetter guided,أَمَّنammanor (he) whoيَمْشِىyamshī[he] walksسَوِيًّاsawiyyanstraight / uprightعَلَىٰʿalāonصِرَٰطٍṣirāṭin(the) pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍmus'taqīminstraight? ﴿٢٢﴾
[67:23] Say, "He is the One who initiated you, and granted you the hearing, the eyes, and the brains. Rarely are you appreciative."
قُلْqulSay,هُوَhuwa"He (is)ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One whoأَنشَأَكُمْansha-akumHe produced / initiated you [all]وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He madeلَكُمُlakumufor you [all]ٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿathe hearing,وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَwal-abṣāraand the visionوَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَwal-afidataand the feelings / brains.قَلِيلًاqalīlanLittleمَّا(is) whatتَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnayou [all] are appreciative. ﴿٢٣﴾
[67:24] Say, "He is the One who placed you on earth, and before Him you will be summoned."
قُلْqulSay,هُوَhuwa"He (is)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoذَرَأَكُمْdhara-akumHe multiplied (placed) you [all]فِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Himتُحْشَرُونَtuḥ'sharūnayou [all] will be summoned." ﴿٢٤﴾
[67:25] They challenge: "When will that prophecy come to pass, if you are truthful?"
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say,مَتَىٰmatā"When (is)هَـٰذَاhādhāthisٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿdu[the] promise,إِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] areصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful [ones]?" ﴿٢٥﴾
[67:26] Say, "Such knowledge is with GOD; I am no more than a manifest warner."
قُلْqulSay,إِنَّمَاinnamā"Onlyٱلْعِلْمُl-ʿil'muthe knowledgeعِندَʿinda(is) withٱللَّهِl-lahiGod,وَإِنَّمَآwa-innamāand onlyأَنَا۠anāI amنَذِيرٌnadhīruna warnerمُّبِينٌmubīnunmanifest." ﴿٢٦﴾
[67:27] When they see it happening, the faces of those who disbelieved will turn miserable, and it will be proclaimed: "This is what you used to mock."
فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenرَأَوْهُra-awhuthey (will) see itزُلْفَةًzul'fatanapproaching,سِيٓـَٔتْsīat[it] (will be) distressed / miserableوُجُوهُwujūhu(the) facesٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelieved,وَقِيلَwaqīlaand it (will be) said,هَـٰذَاhādhā"This (is)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthat whichكُنتُمkuntumyou [all] used toبِهِۦbihifor itتَدَّعُونَtaddaʿūnayou [all] call (for) / invite." ﴿٢٧﴾
[67:28] Say, "Whether GOD decides to annihilate me and those with me, or to shower us with His mercy, who is there to protect the disbelievers from a painful retribution?"
قُلْqulSay,أَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytum"Have you [all] consideredإِنْinifأَهْلَكَنِىَahlakaniya[He] annihilated meٱللَّهُl-lahuGodوَمَنwamanand whoever (is)مَّعِىَmaʿiyawith meأَوْaworرَحِمَنَاraḥimanāHe had mercy upon us,فَمَنfamanthen whoيُجِيرُyujīru[he] (can) protectٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelieversمِنْminfromعَذَابٍʿadhābina retributionأَلِيمٍalīminpainful." ﴿٢٨﴾
[67:29] Say, "He is the Most Gracious; we believe in Him, and we trust in Him. You will surely find out who is really far astray."
قُلْqulSay,هُوَhuwa"He (is)ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most Gracious;ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believedبِهِۦbihiin Him,وَعَلَيْهِwaʿalayhiand upon Himتَوَكَّلْنَاtawakkalnāwe put (our) trust.فَسَتَعْلَمُونَfasataʿlamūnaThen you [all] will knowمَنْmanwho (is)هُوَhuwaitفِى(that is) inضَلَـٰلٍḍalālinerror / astrayمُّبِينٍmubīninclear." ﴿٢٩﴾
[67:30] Say, "What if your water sinks away, who will provide you with pure water?"
قُلْqulSay,أَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytum"Have you [all] consideredإِنْinifأَصْبَحَaṣbaḥa[it] becameمَآؤُكُمْmāukumyour waterغَوْرًاghawransunken (away),فَمَنfamanthen whoيَأْتِيكُمyatīkum[he] brings you [all]بِمَآءٍbimāin[with] waterمَّعِينٍۭmaʿīninflowing stream?" ﴿٣٠﴾
