Sura 26: Al-Shu‘arã’ (The Poets) - Quran Inspector

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.

[26:1] T. S. M.*

طسٓمٓtta-seen-meemT.S.M. ﴿١﴾

*26:1 See Appendix 1 for the significance of these previously mysterious letters.

[26:2] These (letters) constitute proofs of this clarifying scripture.

تِلْكَtil'kaThese (are)ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(the) proofs (of)ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe scriptureٱلْمُبِينِl-mubīni[the] clear. ﴿٢﴾

[26:3] You may blame yourself that they are not believers.

لَعَلَّكَlaʿallakaThat you mayبَـٰخِعٌbākhiʿunworry / blameنَّفْسَكَnafsakayourselfأَلَّاallāthat notيَكُونُوا۟yakūnūthey becomeمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿٣﴾

[26:4] If we will, we can send from the sky a sign that forces their necks to bow.

إِنinIfنَّشَأْnashawe will,نُنَزِّلْnunazzilwe (can) send downعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon themمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyءَايَةًāyatana signفَظَلَّتْfaẓallatso [it] became dark*أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْaʿnāquhumtheir necks (*necks bow)لَهَاlahāto itخَـٰضِعِينَkhāḍiʿīna[ones] submissive. ﴿٤﴾

[26:5] Whenever a reminder from the Most Gracious comes to them, that is new, they turn away in aversion.

وَمَاwamāAnd notيَأْتِيهِمyatīhimit comes to themمِّنminanyذِكْرٍdhik'rinreminderمِّنَminafromٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousمُحْدَثٍmuḥ'dathinnew,إِلَّاillābutكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toعَنْهُʿanhufrom itمُعْرِضِينَmuʿ'riḍīna[those who are] turning away / averse. ﴿٥﴾

[26:6] Since they disbelieved, they have incurred the consequences of their heedlessness.

فَقَدْfaqadSo verily,كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūthey denied / disbelieved,فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْfasayatīhimthen [it] will come to themأَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟anbāu(the) news / information (consequences)مَاmā(of) whatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toبِهِۦbihiat itيَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūna[they] mock / take lightly. ﴿٦﴾

[26:7] Have they not seen the earth, and how many kinds of beautiful plants we have grown thereon?

أَوَلَمْawalamDo notيَرَوْا۟yarawthey seeإِلَىilātoٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthكَمْkamhow manyأَنۢبَتْنَاanbatnāwe caused to growفِيهَاfīhāin itمِنminofكُلِّkullievery (many)زَوْجٍzawjinkindكَرِيمٍkarīminnoble / fruitful / beautiful plants. ﴿٧﴾

[26:8] This should be a sufficient proof for them, but most of them are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathat (is)لَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿٨﴾

[26:9] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord,لَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿٩﴾

[26:10] Recall that your Lord called Moses: "Go to the transgressing people.

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when / recallنَادَىٰnādā[He] called,رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord,مُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,أَنِani[that],ٱئْتِi'ti"Go (to)ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe peopleٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers / transgressors. ﴿١٠﴾

[26:11] "Pharaoh's people; perhaps they reform."

قَوْمَqawma"(The) people (of)فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaPharaoh.أَلَاalāWill notيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnathey turn righteous / reform?" ﴿١١﴾

[26:12] He said, "My Lord, I fear lest they disbelieve me.

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearأَنanthatيُكَذِّبُونِyukadhibūnithey will deny / disbelieve me. ﴿١٢﴾

[26:13] "I may lose my temper. My tongue gets tied; send for my brother Aaron.

وَيَضِيقُwayaḍīqu"And [it] straitens / makes uneasyصَدْرِىṣadrīmy chestوَلَاwalāand notيَنطَلِقُyanṭaliqu[it] moves quickly / becomes loose*لِسَانِىlisānīmy tongue (*my tongue gets tied),فَأَرْسِلْfa-arsilso sendإِلَىٰilāforهَـٰرُونَhārūnaAaron. ﴿١٣﴾

[26:14] "Also, they consider me a fugitive; I fear lest they kill me."

وَلَهُمْwalahum"And for themعَلَىَّʿalayyaagainst meذَنۢبٌdhanbuna crime,فَأَخَافُfa-akhāfuso I fearأَنanthatيَقْتُلُونِyaqtulūnithey will kill me." ﴿١٤﴾

[26:15] He said, "No, (they will not). Go with My proofs. We will be with you, listening.

قَالَqālaHe said,كَلَّاkallā"No.فَٱذْهَبَاfa-idh'habāthen go both (of you)بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināwith our signs / proofs.إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we (are)مَعَكُمmaʿakumwith you [all],مُّسْتَمِعُونَmus'tamiʿūnalisteners. ﴿١٥﴾

[26:16] "Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are messengers from the Lord of the universe.

فَأْتِيَاfatiyā"So go both (of you to)فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaPharaohفَقُولَآfaqūlāand [both] say,إِنَّاinnā 'Indeed, we (are)رَسُولُrasūlumessenger (of)رَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٦﴾

[26:17] " 'Let the Children of Israel go.' "

أَنْan" '[That]أَرْسِلْarsilsendمَعَنَاmaʿanāwith usبَنِىٓbanī(the) Children (of) إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaIsrael.' " ﴿١٧﴾

[26:18] He said, "Did we not raise you from infancy, and you spent many years with us?

قَالَqālaHe said,أَلَمْalam"Did notنُرَبِّكَnurabbikawe raise youفِينَاfīnāamong usوَلِيدًاwalīdan(as) a child,وَلَبِثْتَwalabith'taand you remainedفِينَاfīnāamong usمِنْminofعُمُرِكَʿumurikayour lifeسِنِينَsinīnayears? ﴿١٨﴾

[26:19] "Then you committed the crime that you committed, and you were ungrateful."

وَفَعَلْتَwafaʿalta"And you didفَعْلَتَكَfaʿlatakayour deedٱلَّتِىallatīwhichفَعَلْتَfaʿaltayou did,وَأَنتَwa-antaand youمِنَmina(were) ofٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe unappreciative [ones]." ﴿١٩﴾

[26:20] He said, "Indeed, I did it when I was astray.

قَالَqālaHe said,فَعَلْتُهَآfaʿaltuhā"I did itإِذًاidhanwhenوَأَنَا۠wa-anāwhile I (was)مِنَminaamongٱلضَّآلِّينَl-ḍālīnathe strayers. ﴿٢٠﴾

[26:21] "Then I fled, when I feared you, and my Lord endowed me with wisdom and made me one of the messengers.

فَفَرَرْتُfafarartu"Then I fledمِنكُمْminkumfrom you [all]لَمَّاlammāwhenخِفْتُكُمْkhif'tukumI feared you [all].فَوَهَبَfawahabaBut [He] grantedلِىlīto meرَبِّىrabbīmy Lord,حُكْمًاḥuk'manwisdomوَجَعَلَنِىwajaʿalanīand He made meمِنَminaamongٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿٢١﴾

[26:22] "You are boasting that you did me a favor, while enslaving the Children of Israel!"

وَتِلْكَwatil'ka"And thisنِعْمَةٌniʿ'matunfavorتَمُنُّهَاtamunnuhāyou reproach / boast about itعَلَىَّʿalayyato me,أَنْanwhenعَبَّدتَّʿabbadttayou enslavedبَنِىٓbanī(the) Children (of)إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaIsrael." ﴿٢٢﴾

[26:23] Pharaoh said, "What is the Lord of the universe?"

قَالَqāla[He] said,فِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuPharaohوَمَاwamā"And what (is)رَبُّrabbu(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe?" ﴿٢٣﴾

[26:24] He said, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. You should be certain about this."

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبُّrabbu"Lord (of)ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَمَاwamāand whatever (is)بَيْنَهُمَآbaynahumābetween both of them,إِنinifكُنتُمkuntumyou [all] (should) beمُّوقِنِينَmūqinīnaconvinced / certain [ones]." ﴿٢٤﴾

[26:25] He said to those around him, "Did you hear this?"

قَالَqālaHe saidلِمَنْlimanto (those) whoحَوْلَهُۥٓḥawlahuaround him,أَلَاalā"Do notتَسْتَمِعُونَtastamiʿūnayou [all] hear?" ﴿٢٥﴾

[26:26] He said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors."

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبُّكُمْrabbukum"Your Lordوَرَبُّwarabbuand (the) Lord (of)ءَابَآئِكُمُābāikumuyour fathersٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former / past [ones]." ﴿٢٦﴾

[26:27] He said, "Your messenger who is sent to you is crazy."

قَالَqālaHe said,إِنَّinna"Indeed,رَسُولَكُمُrasūlakumuyour messengerٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe one whoأُرْسِلَur'silahe was sentإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you [all] (is)لَمَجْنُونٌlamajnūnunsurely one who is crazy." ﴿٢٧﴾

[26:28] He said, "The Lord of the east and the west, and everything between them, if you understand."

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبُّrabbu"Lord (of)ٱلْمَشْرِقِl-mashriqithe eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبِwal-maghribiand the westوَمَاwamāand whatever (is)بَيْنَهُمَآbaynahumābetween both of them,إِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] were (to)تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūna[you all] understand." ﴿٢٨﴾

[26:29] He said, "If you accept any god, other than me, I will throw you in the prison."

قَالَqālaHe said,لَئِنِla-ini"Surely ifٱتَّخَذْتَittakhadhtayou takeإِلَـٰهًاilāhana godغَيْرِىghayrīother than me,لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَla-ajʿalannakaI will surely make youمِنَminaamongٱلْمَسْجُونِينَl-masjūnīnathose imprisoned." ﴿٢٩﴾

[26:30] He said, "What if I show you something profound?"

قَالَqālaHe said,أَوَلَوْawalaw"Even ifجِئْتُكَji'tukaI brought youبِشَىْءٍbishayinwith a thing (something)مُّبِينٍmubīninmanifest / profound?" ﴿٣٠﴾

[26:31] He said, "Then produce it, if you are truthful."

قَالَqālaHe said,فَأْتِfati"Then bringبِهِۦٓbihi[of] it,إِنinifكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنَminaofٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful [ones]." ﴿٣١﴾

[26:32] He then threw his staff, whereupon it became a profound snake.

فَأَلْقَىٰfa-alqāSo he threwعَصَاهُʿaṣāhuhis staffفَإِذَاfa-idhāand behold!هِىَhiyaIt (was)ثُعْبَانٌthuʿ'bānuna snake,مُّبِينٌmubīnunprofound. ﴿٣٢﴾

[26:33] And he took out his hand, and it was white to the beholders.

وَنَزَعَwanazaʿaAnd he drew outيَدَهُۥyadahuhis handفَإِذَاfa-idhāand behold!هِىَhiyaIt (was)بَيْضَآءُbayḍāuwhiteلِلنَّـٰظِرِينَlilnnāẓirīnafor the observers. ﴿٣٣﴾

[26:34] He said to the elders around him, "This is an experienced magician.

قَالَqālaHe saidلِلْمَلَإِlil'mala-ito the chiefs / eldersحَوْلَهُۥٓḥawlahuaround him,إِنَّinna"Indeed,هَـٰذَاhādhāthis (is)لَسَـٰحِرٌlasāḥirunsurely a magicianعَلِيمٌʿalīmunlearned / experienced. ﴿٣٤﴾

[26:35] "He wants to take you out of your land, with his magic. What do you suggest?"

يُرِيدُyurīdu"He wantsأَنanthatيُخْرِجَكُمyukh'rijakumhe drive you [all] outمِّنْminfromأَرْضِكُمarḍikumyour landبِسِحْرِهِۦbisiḥ'rihiwith his magic,فَمَاذَاfamādhāso what then (is it)تَأْمُرُونَtamurūnayou [all] command / advise?" ﴿٣٥﴾

[26:36] They said, "Respite him and his brother, and send summoners to every town.

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,أَرْجِهْarjih"Postpone / Respite himوَأَخَاهُwa-akhāhuand his brother,وَٱبْعَثْwa-ib'ʿathand sendفِىfīinٱلْمَدَآئِنِl-madāinithe cities / townsحَـٰشِرِينَḥāshirīnasummoners ﴿٣٦﴾

[26:37] "Let them summon every experienced magician."

يَأْتُوكَyatūka"They will bring to youبِكُلِّbikulli[of] everyسَحَّارٍsaḥḥārinmagician,عَلِيمٍʿalīminlearned / experienced." ﴿٣٧﴾

[26:38] The magicians were gathered at the appointed time, on the appointed day.

فَجُمِعَfajumiʿaSo were gatheredٱلسَّحَرَةُl-saḥaratuthe magiciansلِمِيقَـٰتِlimīqātifor (the) appointmentيَوْمٍyawmin(on) a dayمَّعْلُومٍmaʿlūminknown / specified. ﴿٣٨﴾

[26:39] The people were told: "Come one and all; let us gather together here.

وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it was saidلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the people,هَلْhal"Willأَنتُمantumyou [all] (be)مُّجْتَمِعُونَmuj'tamiʿūna[those who] gather / assemble? ﴿٣٩﴾

[26:40] "Maybe we will follow the magicians, if they are the winners."

لَعَلَّنَاlaʿallanā"That perhaps weنَتَّبِعُnattabiʿu[we] will followٱلسَّحَرَةَl-saḥaratathe magiciansإِنinifكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereهُمُhumu[they]ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَl-ghālibīnathe victors / winners." ﴿٤٠﴾

[26:41] When the magicians came, they said to Pharaoh, "Do we get paid, if we are the winners?"

فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenجَآءَjāa[he] came / arrivedٱلسَّحَرَةُl-saḥaratuthe magicians,قَالُوا۟qālūthey saidلِفِرْعَوْنَlifir'ʿawnato Pharaoh,أَئِنَّa-inna"Is thereلَنَاlanāfor usلَأَجْرًاla-ajransurely a rewardإِنinifكُنَّاkunnāwe wereنَحْنُnaḥnu[we]ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَl-ghālibīnathe victors?" ﴿٤١﴾

[26:42] He said, "Yes indeed; you will even be close to me."

قَالَqālaHe said,نَعَمْnaʿam"Yes,وَإِنَّكُمْwa-innakumand indeed you [all]إِذًاidhanthen (will be)لَّمِنَlaminasurely amongٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَl-muqarabīnathe ones who are brought near." ﴿٤٢﴾

[26:43] Moses said to them, "Throw what you are going to throw."

قَالَqāla[He] saidلَهُمlahumto themمُّوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,أَلْقُوا۟alqū"Throw [you all]مَآmāwhatأَنتُمantumyou [all]مُّلْقُونَmul'qūna[ones who] throw." ﴿٤٣﴾

[26:44] They threw their ropes and sticks, and said, "By Pharaoh's majesty, we will be the victors."

فَأَلْقَوْا۟fa-alqawSo they threwحِبَالَهُمْḥibālahumtheir ropesوَعِصِيَّهُمْwaʿiṣiyyahumand their staffs / sticksوَقَالُوا۟waqālūand they said,بِعِزَّةِbiʿizzati"By the might / majesty (of)فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaPharaoh,إِنَّاinnāindeed, [we]لَنَحْنُlanaḥnusurely we (are)ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَl-ghālibūnathe victors." ﴿٤٤﴾

[26:45] Moses threw his staff, whereupon it swallowed what they fabricated.

فَأَلْقَىٰfa-alqāThen [he] threwمُوسَىٰmūsāMosesعَصَاهُʿaṣāhuhis staffفَإِذَاfa-idhāand behold!هِىَhiyaItتَلْقَفُtalqafu[it] will swallowمَاmāwhatيَأْفِكُونَyafikūnathey falsify / fabricate. ﴿٤٥﴾

[26:46] The magicians fell prostrate.

فَأُلْقِىَfa-ul'qiyaThen [he] were thrown downٱلسَّحَرَةُl-saḥaratuthe magiciansسَـٰجِدِينَsājidīna[ones] prostrating. ﴿٤٦﴾

[26:47] They said, "We believe in the Lord of the universe.

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,ءَامَنَّاāmannā"We believedبِرَبِّbirabbiin (the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿٤٧﴾

[26:48] "The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

رَبِّrabbi"(The) Lord (of)مُوسَىٰmūsāMosesوَهَـٰرُونَwahārūnaand Aaron." ﴿٤٨﴾

[26:49] He said, "Did you believe with him before I give you permission? He must be your teacher, who taught you magic. You will surely find out. I will cut your hands and feet on alternate sides. I will crucify you all."

قَالَqālaHe said,ءَامَنتُمْāmantum"You [all] believedلَهُۥlahuin himقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنْan[that]ءَاذَنَādhanaI give permissionلَكُمْlakumto you [all].إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he (is)لَكَبِيرُكُمُlakabīrukumusurely your chief / teacherٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one whoعَلَّمَكُمُʿallamakumuhe taught you [all]ٱلسِّحْرَl-siḥ'rathe magic,فَلَسَوْفَfalasawfaso surely soonتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou [all] will know.لَأُقَطِّعَنَّla-uqaṭṭiʿannaI will surely cut offأَيْدِيَكُمْaydiyakumyour handsوَأَرْجُلَكُمwa-arjulakumand your feetمِّنْminfromخِلَـٰفٍkhilāfinalternate sides,وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْwala-uṣallibannakumthen I will surely crucify you [all]أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall together." ﴿٤٩﴾

[26:50] They said, "This will not change our decision; to our Lord we will return.

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,لَاlā"No*ضَيْرَḍayraharm (*no worries).إِنَّآinnāIndeed, weإِلَىٰilātoرَبِّنَاrabbināour Lordمُنقَلِبُونَmunqalibūna[those who] will be returning. ﴿٥٠﴾

[26:51] "We hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, especially that we are the first believers."

إِنَّاinnā"Indeed, weنَطْمَعُnaṭmaʿu[we] hopeأَنanthatيَغْفِرَyaghfira[He] will forgiveلَنَاlanā[for] usرَبُّنَاrabbunāour Lordخَطَـٰيَـٰنَآkhaṭāyānāour sins,أَنanbecauseكُنَّآkunnāwe wereأَوَّلَawwala(the) first (of)ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers." ﴿٥١﴾

[26:52] We inspired Moses: "Travel with My servants; you will be pursued."

وَأَوْحَيْنَآwa-awḥaynāAnd we inspiredإِلَىٰilātoمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,أَنْan[that]أَسْرِasri"Travel [by night]بِعِبَادِىٓbiʿibādīwith My servants,إِنَّكُمinnakumIndeed, you [all] (are)مُّتَّبَعُونَmuttabaʿūnaones who will be followed / pursued." ﴿٥٢﴾

[26:53] Pharaoh sent to the cities callers.

فَأَرْسَلَfa-arsalaThen [he] sentفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuPharaohفِىfīinٱلْمَدَآئِنِl-madāinithe citiesحَـٰشِرِينَḥāshirīnagatherers / callers. ﴿٥٣﴾

[26:54] (Proclaiming,) "This is a small gang.

إِنَّinna"Indeed,هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese (are)لَشِرْذِمَةٌlashir'dhimatuncertainly gangsقَلِيلُونَqalīlūnasmall [ones]. ﴿٥٤﴾

[26:55] "They are now opposing us.

وَإِنَّهُمْwa-innahum"And indeed, theyلَنَاlanā[to] us (are)لَغَآئِظُونَlaghāiẓūnasurely agitators / provokers. ﴿٥٥﴾

[26:56] "Let us all beware of them."

وَإِنَّاwa-innā"And indeed, we (are)لَجَمِيعٌlajamīʿunsurely allحَـٰذِرُونَḥādhirūna[ones] forewarned." ﴿٥٦﴾

[26:57] Consequently, we deprived them of gardens and springs.

فَأَخْرَجْنَـٰهُمfa-akhrajnāhumSo we expelled / evicted themمِّنminfromجَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensوَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand springs, ﴿٥٧﴾

[26:58] And treasures and an honorable position.

وَكُنُوزٍwakunūzinAnd treasuresوَمَقَامٍwamaqāminand a place / positionكَرِيمٍkarīminhonorable. ﴿٥٨﴾

[26:59] Then we made it an inheritance for the Children of Israel.

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus.وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَاwa-awrathnāhāAnd we caused to inherit it / bequeathed it (to)بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children (of) إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaIsrael. ﴿٥٩﴾

[26:60] They pursued them towards the east.

فَأَتْبَعُوهُمfa-atbaʿūhumSo they pursued themمُّشْرِقِينَmush'riqīna(to the) east[s]. ﴿٦٠﴾

[26:61] When both parties saw each other, Moses' people said, "We will be caught."

فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenتَرَٰٓءَاtarāā(they) both saw each otherٱلْجَمْعَانِl-jamʿānithe two parties,قَالَqāla[he] saidأَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(the) companions (of)مُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,إِنَّاinnā"Indeed, we (will be)لَمُدْرَكُونَlamud'rakūnasurely ones who are overtaken (caught)." ﴿٦١﴾

[26:62] He said, "No way. My Lord is with me; He will guide me."

قَالَqālaHe said,كَلَّآkallā"Nay,إِنَّinnaindeed,مَعِىَmaʿiyawith me (is)رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord,سَيَهْدِينِsayahdīniHe will guide me." ﴿٦٢﴾

[26:63] We then inspired Moses: "Strike the sea with your staff," whereupon it parted. Each part was like a great hill.

فَأَوْحَيْنَآfa-awḥaynāThen we inspiredإِلَىٰilātoمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,أَنِani[that]ٱضْرِبiḍ'rib"Strikeبِّعَصَاكَbiʿaṣākawith your staffٱلْبَحْرَl-baḥrathe sea."فَٱنفَلَقَfa-infalaqaSo we partedفَكَانَfakānaand [it] becameكُلُّkullueachفِرْقٍfir'qinpartكَٱلطَّوْدِkal-ṭawdilike the mountain / hillٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi[the] great. ﴿٦٣﴾

[26:64] We then delivered them all.

وَأَزْلَفْنَاwa-azlafnāAnd we brought nearثَمَّthammathereafter,ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَl-ākharīnathe others. ﴿٦٤﴾

[26:65] We thus saved Moses and all those who were with him.

وَأَنجَيْنَاwa-anjaynāAnd we savedمُوسَىٰmūsāMosesوَمَنwamanand who (were)مَّعَهُۥٓmaʿahuwith himأَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall together. ﴿٦٥﴾

[26:66] And we drowned the others.

ثُمَّthummaThenأَغْرَقْنَاaghraqnāwe drownedٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَl-ākharīnathe others. ﴿٦٦﴾

[26:67] This should be a sufficient proof, but most people are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathat (is)لَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿٦٧﴾

[26:68] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord,لَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿٦٨﴾

[26:69] Narrate to them Abraham's history.

وَٱتْلُwa-ut'luAnd recite / narrateعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themنَبَأَnaba-a(the) news (of)إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaAbraham. ﴿٦٩﴾

[26:70] He said to his father and his people, "What is this you are worshiping?"

إِذْidhWhenقَالَqālahe saidلِأَبِيهِli-abīhito his fatherوَقَوْمِهِۦwaqawmihiand his people,مَاmā"What (do)تَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou [all] worship?" ﴿٧٠﴾

[26:71] They said, "We worship statues; we are totally devoted to them."

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,نَعْبُدُnaʿbudu"We worshipأَصْنَامًاaṣnāmanidols / statues,فَنَظَلُّfanaẓalluso we will remainلَهَاlahāto itعَـٰكِفِينَʿākifīna[ones] devoted." ﴿٧١﴾

[26:72] He said, "Can they hear you when you implore?

قَالَqālaHe said,هَلْhal"Doيَسْمَعُونَكُمْyasmaʿūnakumthey hear you [all]إِذْidhwhenتَدْعُونَtadʿūnayou [all] call / implore? ﴿٧٢﴾

[26:73] "Can they benefit you, or harm you?"

أَوْaw"Or (do)يَنفَعُونَكُمْyanfaʿūnakumthey benefit you [all]أَوْaworيَضُرُّونَyaḍurrūnathey harm (you)?" ﴿٧٣﴾

[26:74] They said, "No; but we found our parents doing this."

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,بَلْbal"No, (but)وَجَدْنَآwajadnāwe foundءَابَآءَنَاābāanāour forefathers / parentsكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikalikewiseيَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūna[they] do." ﴿٧٤﴾

[26:75] He said, "Do you see these idols that you worship.

قَالَqālaHe said,أَفَرَءَيْتُمafara-aytum"Then have you [all] seenمَّاmāwhatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūna[you all] worship. ﴿٧٥﴾

[26:76] "You and your ancestors.

أَنتُمْantum"You [all]وَءَابَآؤُكُمُwaābāukumuand your forefathersٱلْأَقْدَمُونَl-aqdamūnathe old ones / those before. ﴿٧٦﴾

[26:77] "I am against them, for I am devoted only to the Lord of the universe.

فَإِنَّهُمْfa-innahum"Then indeed, they (are)عَدُوٌّʿaduwwunenemyلِّىٓlīto me,إِلَّاillāexceptرَبَّrabba(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿٧٧﴾

[26:78] "The One who created me, and guided me.

ٱلَّذِىalladhī"The One whoخَلَقَنِىkhalaqanīHe created me,فَهُوَfahuwaand Heيَهْدِينِyahdīni[He] guides me. ﴿٧٨﴾

[26:79] "The One who feeds me and waters me.

وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhī"And the One whoهُوَhuwaHeيُطْعِمُنِىyuṭ'ʿimunī[He] gives me foodوَيَسْقِينِwayasqīniand He gives me drink / water. ﴿٧٩﴾

[26:80] "And when I get sick, He heals me.

وَإِذَاwa-idhā"And whenمَرِضْتُmariḍ'tuI was ill / sick,فَهُوَfahuwathen Heيَشْفِينِyashfīni[He] heals me. ﴿٨٠﴾

[26:81] "The One who puts me to death, then brings me back to life.

وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhī"And the One whoيُمِيتُنِىyumītunīHe will cause me to dieثُمَّthummathenيُحْيِينِyuḥ'yīniHe will give me life. ﴿٨١﴾

[26:82] "The One who hopefully will forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment.

وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhī"And the One whoأَطْمَعُaṭmaʿuI hopeأَنanthatيَغْفِرَyaghfiraHe will forgiveلِىlīfor meخَطِيٓـَٔتِىkhaṭīatīmy faults / sinsيَوْمَyawma(on the) Day (of)ٱلدِّينِl-dīni[the] Judgment. ﴿٨٢﴾

[26:83] "My Lord, grant me wisdom, and include me with the righteous.

رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!هَبْhabGrantلِىlī[for] meحُكْمًاḥuk'manwisdomوَأَلْحِقْنِىwa-alḥiq'nīand join meبِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَbil-ṣāliḥīnawith the righteous [ones]. ﴿٨٣﴾

[26:84] "Let the example I set for the future generations be a good one.

وَٱجْعَلwa-ij'ʿal"And make / establish / grantلِّىlī[for] meلِسَانَlisānaa mention (example)صِدْقٍṣid'qinhonorableفِىfīamongٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīnathe later ones / later generations. ﴿٨٤﴾

[26:85] "Make me one of the inheritors of the blissful Paradise.

وَٱجْعَلْنِىwa-ij'ʿalnī"And make meمِنminamongوَرَثَةِwarathati(the) inheritors (of)جَنَّةِjannatiParadise (of)ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi[the] delight / bliss. ﴿٨٥﴾

[26:86] "And forgive my father, for he has gone astray.

وَٱغْفِرْwa-igh'fir"And forgiveلِأَبِىٓli-abīof my father.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasمِنَminaamongٱلضَّآلِّينَl-ḍālīnathe strayers. ﴿٨٦﴾

[26:87] "And do not forsake me on the Day of Resurrection."

وَلَاwalā"And (do) notتُخْزِنِىtukh'zinīYou disgrace / forsake meيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayيُبْعَثُونَyub'ʿathūnathey are resurrected." ﴿٨٧﴾

[26:88] That is the day when neither money, nor children, can help.

يَوْمَyawma(The) dayلَاlānotيَنفَعُyanfaʿu[it] will benefitمَالٌmālunwealthوَلَاwalāand notبَنُونَbanūnasons / children. ﴿٨٨﴾

[26:89] Only those who come to GOD with their whole heart (will be saved).

إِلَّاillāExceptمَنْman(he) whoأَتَىatāhe cameٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Godبِقَلْبٍbiqalbinwith a heartسَلِيمٍsalīminsound / whole. ﴿٨٩﴾

[26:90] Paradise will be presented to the righteous.

وَأُزْلِفَتِwa-uz'lifatiAnd [it] was brought nearٱلْجَنَّةُl-janatuthe Paradiseلِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor the righteous [ones]. ﴿٩٠﴾

[26:91] Hell will be set up for the strayers.

وَبُرِّزَتِwaburrizatiAnd [it] was presentedٱلْجَحِيمُl-jaḥīmuthe Hellfireلِلْغَاوِينَlil'ghāwīnato the deviators / strayers. ﴿٩١﴾

[26:92] They will be asked, "Where are the idols you had worshiped

وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it was saidلَهُمْlahumto them,أَيْنَayna"Whereمَاmāwhatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūna[you all] worship ﴿٩٢﴾

[26:93] "beside GOD? Can they help you now? Can they help themselves?"

مِنmin"fromدُونِdūnibesides ٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?هَلْhalCanيَنصُرُونَكُمْyanṣurūnakumthey [can] help you [all]أَوْaworيَنتَصِرُونَyantaṣirūnathey help themselves?" ﴿٩٣﴾

[26:94] They will be thrown therein, together with the strayers.

فَكُبْكِبُوا۟fakub'kibūThen they will be thrownفِيهَاfīhāinto it,هُمْhumtheyوَٱلْغَاوُۥنَwal-ghāwūnaand the deviators / strayers ﴿٩٤﴾

[26:95] And all of Satan's soldiers.

وَجُنُودُwajunūduAnd (the) soldiers (of)إِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblis (Satan)أَجْمَعُونَajmaʿūnaall together. ﴿٩٥﴾

[26:96] They will say as they feud therein,

قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidوَهُمْwahumwhile theyفِيهَاfīhāin itيَخْتَصِمُونَyakhtaṣimūnathey feuding, ﴿٩٦﴾

[26:97] "By GOD, we were far astray.

تَٱللَّهِtal-lahi"By God,إِنinindeed,كُنَّاkunnāwe wereلَفِىlafīsurely inضَلَـٰلٍḍalālinerrorمُّبِينٍmubīninclear. ﴿٩٧﴾

[26:98] "How could we set you up to rank with the Lord of the universe?

إِذْidh"When [in the past]نُسَوِّيكُمnusawwīkumwe equate you [all]بِرَبِّbirabbiwith (the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿٩٨﴾

[26:99] "Those who misled us were wicked.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَضَلَّنَآaḍallanāhe misled usإِلَّاillāexceptٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe sinners / guilty / wicked [ones]. ﴿٩٩﴾

[26:100] "Now we have no intercessors.

فَمَاfamā"So notلَنَاlanāfor usمِنminanyشَـٰفِعِينَshāfiʿīnaintercessors. ﴿١٠٠﴾

[26:101] "Nor a single close friend.

وَلَاwalā"And notصَدِيقٍṣadīqina man of truth / confidant / friendحَمِيمٍḥamīminwarm / close. ﴿١٠١﴾

[26:102] "If only we could get another chance, we would then believe."

فَلَوْfalaw"Then ifأَنَّannathatلَنَاlanāfor usكَرَّةًkarratana return,فَنَكُونَfanakūnathen we will beمِنَminaamongٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers." ﴿١٠٢﴾

[26:103] This should be a good lesson. But most people are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lesson,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٠٣﴾

[26:104] Your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord,لَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٠٤﴾

[26:105] The people of Noah disbelieved the messengers.

كَذَّبَتْkadhabat[It] denied / disbelievedقَوْمُqawmu(the) people (of)نُوحٍnūḥinNoahٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿١٠٥﴾

[26:106] Their brother Noah said to them, "Would you not be righteous?

إِذْidhWhenقَالَqālahe saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَخُوهُمْakhūhumtheir brotherنُوحٌnūḥunNoah,أَلَاalā"Will notتَتَّقُونَtattaqūna[you all] be righteous? ﴿١٠٦﴾

[26:107] "I am an honest messenger to you.

إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]رَسُولٌrasūluna messengerأَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest. ﴿١٠٧﴾

[26:108] "You shall reverence GOD and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٠٨﴾

[26:109] "I do not ask you for any wage. My wage comes from the Lord of the universe.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْasalukumI ask you [all]عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinpayment / wage.إِنْinNot (is)أَجْرِىَajriyamy payment / wageإِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٠٩﴾

[26:110] "You shall reverence GOD and obey me."

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]." ﴿١١٠﴾

[26:111] They said, "How can we believe with you, when the worst among us have followed you?"

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,أَنُؤْمِنُanu'minu"Should we believeلَكَlakain youوَٱتَّبَعَكَwa-ittabaʿakawhile [he] followed youٱلْأَرْذَلُونَl-ardhalūnathe worst ones?" ﴿١١١﴾

[26:112] He said, "How do I know what they did?

قَالَqālaHe said,وَمَاwamā"And what (have)عِلْمِىʿil'mīI knownبِمَاbimāof whatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna[they] do? ﴿١١٢﴾

[26:113] "Their judgment rests only with my Lord, if you could perceive.

إِنْin"Indeed,حِسَابُهُمْḥisābuhumtheir accountإِلَّاillā(is) butعَلَىٰʿalāwithرَبِّىrabbīmy Lord,لَوْlawifتَشْعُرُونَtashʿurūnayou [all] perceive. ﴿١١٣﴾

[26:114] "I will never dismiss the believers.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَنَا۠anāI amبِطَارِدِbiṭāridiever to drive away / dismissٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers. ﴿١١٤﴾

[26:115] "I am no more than a clarifying warner."

إِنْin"Notأَنَا۠anāI amإِلَّاillābutنَذِيرٌnadhīruna warnerمُّبِينٌmubīnunclear (clarifying)." ﴿١١٥﴾

[26:116] They said, "Unless you refrain, O Noah, you will be stoned."

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,لَئِنla-in"Surely ifلَّمْlamnotتَنتَهِtantahiyou desist / refrain,يَـٰنُوحُyānūḥuO Noah!لَتَكُونَنَّlatakūnannaSurely you [all] will beمِنَminaamongٱلْمَرْجُومِينَl-marjūmīnathose who are stoned." ﴿١١٦﴾

[26:117] He said, "My Lord, my people have disbelieved me.

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!إِنَّinnaIndeed,قَوْمِىqawmīmy peopleكَذَّبُونِkadhabūnithey denied / rejected / disbelieved me. ﴿١١٧﴾

[26:118] "Grant me victory against them, and deliver me and my company of believers."

فَٱفْتَحْfa-if'taḥ"So grant victoryبَيْنِىbaynībetween meوَبَيْنَهُمْwabaynahumand between themفَتْحًاfatḥana victory,وَنَجِّنِىwanajjinīand save meوَمَنwamanand who (are)مَّعِىَmaʿiyawith meمِنَminaofٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers." ﴿١١٨﴾

[26:119] We delivered him and those who accompanied him in the loaded ark.

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُfa-anjaynāhuSo we saved himوَمَنwamanand who (were)مَّعَهُۥmaʿahuwith himفِىfīinٱلْفُلْكِl-ful'kithe ship,ٱلْمَشْحُونِl-mashḥūni[the] loaded. ﴿١١٩﴾

[26:120] Then we drowned the others.

ثُمَّthummaThenأَغْرَقْنَاaghraqnāwe drownedبَعْدُbaʿduthereafterٱلْبَاقِينَl-bāqīnathe remaining ones. ﴿١٢٠﴾

[26:121] This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathat (is)لَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lessonوَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٢١﴾

[26:122] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٢٢﴾

[26:123] Ãd disbelieved the messengers.

كَذَّبَتْkadhabat[It] denied / disbelievedعَادٌʿādunAdٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿١٢٣﴾

[26:124] Their brother Hûd said to them, "Would you not be righteous?

إِذْidhWhenقَالَqāla[he] saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَخُوهُمْakhūhumtheir brotherهُودٌhūdunHud,أَلَاalā"Will notتَتَّقُونَtattaqūna[you all] be righteous? ﴿١٢٤﴾

[26:125] "I am an honest messenger to you.

إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]رَسُولٌrasūluna messengerأَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest. ﴿١٢٥﴾

[26:126] "You shall reverence GOD, and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٢٦﴾

[26:127] "I do not ask you for any wage; my wage comes from the Lord of the universe.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْasalukumI ask you [all]عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinpayment / wage.إِنْinNot (is)أَجْرِىَajriyamy payment / wageإِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٢٧﴾

[26:128] "You build on every hill a mansion for vanity's sake.

أَتَبْنُونَatabnūna"Do you [all] buildبِكُلِّbikullion everyرِيعٍrīʿinelevated place / hillءَايَةًāyatanmansion,تَعْبَثُونَtaʿbathūnayou [all] do it in vain? ﴿١٢٨﴾

[26:129] "You set up buildings as if you last forever.

وَتَتَّخِذُونَwatattakhidhūna"And you [all] take (for yourselves)مَصَانِعَmaṣāniʿastrongholds / buildingsلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you [all] mayتَخْلُدُونَtakhludūna[you all] live forever. ﴿١٢٩﴾

[26:130] "And when you strike, you strike mercilessly.

وَإِذَاwa-idhā"And whenبَطَشْتُمbaṭashtumyou [all] strike,بَطَشْتُمْbaṭashtumyou [all] strike (as)جَبَّارِينَjabbārīnatyrants (mercilessly). ﴿١٣٠﴾

[26:131] "You shall reverence GOD and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٣١﴾

[26:132] "Reverence the One who provided you with all the things you know.

وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqū"And reverence [you all]ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One whoأَمَدَّكُمamaddakumHe provided you [all]بِمَاbimāwith whatتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou [all] know. ﴿١٣٢﴾

[26:133] "He provided you with livestock and children.

أَمَدَّكُمamaddakum"He provided you [all]بِأَنْعَـٰمٍbi-anʿāminwith cattle / livestockوَبَنِينَwabanīnaand children. ﴿١٣٣﴾

[26:134] "And gardens and springs.

وَجَنَّـٰتٍwajannātin"And gardensوَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand springs. ﴿١٣٤﴾

[26:135] "I fear for you the retribution of an awesome day."

إِنِّىٓinnī"Indeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumfor you [all]عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) retributionيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a dayعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat / awesome." ﴿١٣٥﴾

[26:136] They said, "It is the same whether you preach, or not preach.

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,سَوَآءٌsawāon"It is sameعَلَيْنَآʿalaynāfor usأَوَعَظْتَawaʿaẓtawhether you advised / preachedأَمْamorلَمْlamnotتَكُنtakunyou areمِّنَminaofٱلْوَٰعِظِينَl-wāʿiẓīnathe advisors / preachers. ﴿١٣٦﴾

[26:137] "That affliction was limited to our ancestors.

إِنْin"Notهَـٰذَآhādhāthis (was)إِلَّاillābutخُلُقُkhuluqu(the) character / way (of)ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former [ones] (people) / past generations / ancestors. ﴿١٣٧﴾

[26:138] "No retribution will ever befall us."

وَمَاwamā"And notنَحْنُnaḥnuwe (are)بِمُعَذَّبِينَbimuʿadhabīnaever ones who are punished." ﴿١٣٨﴾

[26:139] They thus disbelieved and, consequently, we annihilated them. This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

فَكَذَّبُوهُfakadhabūhuSo they denied / disbelieved him,فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْfa-ahlaknāhumthen we destroyed / annihilated them.إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lesson,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٣٩﴾

[26:140] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٤٠﴾

[26:141] Thamûd disbelieved the messengers.

كَذَّبَتْkadhabat[It] denied / disbelievedثَمُودُthamūduThamud,ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿١٤١﴾

[26:142] Their brother Sãleh said to them, "Would you not be righteous?

إِذْidhWhen,قَالَqāla[he] saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَخُوهُمْakhūhumtheir brotherصَـٰلِحٌṣāliḥunSaleh,أَلَاalā"Will notتَتَّقُونَtattaqūna[you all] be righteous? ﴿١٤٢﴾

[26:143] "I am an honest messenger to you.

إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]رَسُولٌrasūluna messengerأَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest. ﴿١٤٣﴾

[26:144] "You shall reverence GOD, and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٤٤﴾

[26:145] "I do not ask you for any wage; my wage comes only from the Lord of the universe.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْasalukumI ask you [all]عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinpayment / wage.إِنْinNot (is)أَجْرِىَajriyamy payment / wageإِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٤٥﴾

[26:146] "Do you suppose you will be left forever, secure in this state?

أَتُتْرَكُونَatut'rakūna"Will you [all] be leftفِىfīinمَاmāwhat (is)هَـٰهُنَآhāhunāhereءَامِنِينَāminīna[ones] secure? ﴿١٤٦﴾

[26:147] "You enjoy gardens and springs.

فِىfī"Inجَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensوَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand springs. ﴿١٤٧﴾

[26:148] "And crops and date palms with delicious fruits.

وَزُرُوعٍwazurūʿin"And cropsوَنَخْلٍwanakhlinand date-palmsطَلْعُهَاṭalʿuhāits spadix / flowers / emerging fruitsهَضِيمٌhaḍīmunripe / delicious (*near breaking falling to each other (spathe)). ﴿١٤٨﴾

[26:149] "You carve out of the mountains luxurious mansions.

وَتَنْحِتُونَwatanḥitūna"And you [all] carveمِنَmina(out) ofٱلْجِبَالِl-jibālithe mountainsبُيُوتًاbuyūtanhousesفَـٰرِهِينَfārihīna[ones] great skilled / elated greatness. ﴿١٤٩﴾

[26:150] "You shall reverence GOD, and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٥٠﴾

[26:151] "Do not obey the transgressors.

وَلَاwalā"And (do) notتُطِيعُوٓا۟tuṭīʿū[you all] obeyأَمْرَamra(the) command (of)ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَl-mus'rifīnathe transgressors. ﴿١٥١﴾

[26:152] "Who commit evil, not good works."

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna"Those whoيُفْسِدُونَyuf'sidūnathey spread corruption / commit evilفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَاwalāand (do) notيُصْلِحُونَyuṣ'liḥūnathey rectify / make amends / make good." ﴿١٥٢﴾

[26:153] They said, "You are bewitched.

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,إِنَّمَآinnamā"Onlyأَنتَantayou (are)مِنَminaamongٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَl-musaḥarīnathose bewitched. ﴿١٥٣﴾

[26:154] "You are no more than a human like us. Produce a miracle, if you are truthful."

مَآmā"Notأَنتَantayou (are)إِلَّاillāexceptبَشَرٌbasharuna manمِّثْلُنَاmith'lunālike us,فَأْتِfatiso bringبِـَٔايَةٍbiāyatinof a sign / miracle,إِنinifكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنَminaofٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful [ones]." ﴿١٥٤﴾

[26:155] He said, "Here is a camel that will drink only on a day that is assigned to her; a day that is different from your specified days of drinking.

قَالَqālaHe said,هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihi"This (is)نَاقَةٌnāqatuna she-camel.لَّهَاlahāFor herشِرْبٌshir'bundrinking time / turn,وَلَكُمْwalakumand for you [all]شِرْبُshir'budrinking time / turn,يَوْمٍyawmin(on) a dayمَّعْلُومٍmaʿlūminknown / specified. ﴿١٥٥﴾

[26:156] "Do not touch her with any harm, lest you incur retribution on an awesome day."

وَلَاwalā"And (do) notتَمَسُّوهَاtamassūhāyou [all] touch herبِسُوٓءٍbisūinwith harm,فَيَأْخُذَكُمْfayakhudhakumlest [it] afflicts you [all]عَذَابُʿadhābu(the) retributionيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a dayعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat / awesome." ﴿١٥٦﴾

[26:157] They slaughtered her, and thus incurred sorrow.

فَعَقَرُوهَاfaʿaqarūhāBut they slaughtered her,فَأَصْبَحُوا۟fa-aṣbaḥūthen they becameنَـٰدِمِينَnādimīnaremorseful / regretful / sorrowful [ones]. ﴿١٥٧﴾

[26:158] The retribution overwhelmed them. This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

فَأَخَذَهُمُfa-akhadhahumuSo [it] seized / overtook themٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe retribution.إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lesson,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٥٨﴾

[26:159] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord,لَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٥٩﴾

[26:160] The people of Lot disbelieved the messengers.

كَذَّبَتْkadhabat[It] denied / disbelieved,قَوْمُqawmu(the) people (of)لُوطٍlūṭinLot,ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿١٦٠﴾

[26:161] Their brother Lot said to them, "Would you not be righteous?

إِذْidhWhenقَالَqāla[he] saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَخُوهُمْakhūhumtheir brotherلُوطٌlūṭunLot,أَلَاalā"Will notتَتَّقُونَtattaqūnayou [all] be righteous? ﴿١٦١﴾

[26:162] "I am an honest messenger to you.

إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]رَسُولٌrasūluna messengerأَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest. ﴿١٦٢﴾

[26:163] "You shall reverence GOD, and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٦٣﴾

[26:164] "I do not ask you for any wage; my wage comes only from the Lord of the universe.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْasalukumI ask you [all]عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinpayment / wage.إِنْinNot (is)أَجْرِىَajriyamy payment / wageإِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٦٤﴾

[26:165] "Do you have sex with the males, of all the people?

أَتَأْتُونَatatūna"Do you [all] commit / approach (*have sex)ٱلذُّكْرَانَl-dhuk'rānathe malesمِنَminaamongٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnaall (the) people? ﴿١٦٥﴾

[26:166] "You forsake the wives that your Lord has created for you! Indeed, you are transgressing people."

وَتَذَرُونَwatadharūna"And you [all] leaveمَاmāwhatخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdلَكُمْlakumfor you [all],رَبُّكُمrabbukumyour Lord,مِّنْminofأَزْوَٰجِكُمazwājikumyour wives?بَلْbal"Nay,أَنتُمْantumyou [all] (are)قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleعَادُونَʿādūna[ones] transgressing." ﴿١٦٦﴾

[26:167] They said, "Unless you refrain, O Lot, you will be banished."

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,لَئِنla-in"Surely ifلَّمْlamnotتَنتَهِtantahiyou desist / refrain,يَـٰلُوطُyālūṭuO Lot!لَتَكُونَنَّlatakūnannaSurely you [all] will beمِنَminaamongٱلْمُخْرَجِينَl-mukh'rajīnathe ones banished." ﴿١٦٧﴾

[26:168] He said, "I deplore your actions."

قَالَqālaHe said,إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلِعَمَلِكُمliʿamalikumof your action,مِّنَminaamongٱلْقَالِينَl-qālīnathose who detest / deplore. ﴿١٦٨﴾

[26:169] "My Lord, save me and my family from their works."

رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!نَجِّنِىnajjinīSave meوَأَهْلِىwa-ahlīand my familyمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnathey do." ﴿١٦٩﴾

[26:170] We saved him and all his family.

فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُfanajjaynāhuSo we saved himوَأَهْلَهُۥٓwa-ahlahuand his familyأَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall. ﴿١٧٠﴾

[26:171] But not the old woman; she was doomed.

إِلَّاillāExceptعَجُوزًاʿajūzan(the) old woman,فِىfī(was) amongٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَl-ghābirīnathose who remained behind. ﴿١٧١﴾

[26:172] We then destroyed the others.

ثُمَّthummaThenدَمَّرْنَاdammarnāwe destroyedٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَl-ākharīnathe others. ﴿١٧٢﴾

[26:173] We showered them with a miserable shower; what a terrible shower for those who had been warned!

وَأَمْطَرْنَاwa-amṭarnāAnd we rained / showeredعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon themمَّطَرًاmaṭarana rain / shower,فَسَآءَfasāaand miserable (was)مَطَرُmaṭaru(the) rain / shower (on)ٱلْمُنذَرِينَl-mundharīnathose who were warned. ﴿١٧٣﴾

[26:174] This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lesson,وَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٧٤﴾

[26:175] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord,لَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٧٥﴾

[26:176] The People of the Woods disbelieved the messengers.

كَذَّبَkadhaba[He] denied / disbelievedأَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(the) Companions (of)لْـَٔيْكَةِal'aykatithe Woods,ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe messengers. ﴿١٧٦﴾

[26:177] Shu'aib said to them, "Would you not be righteous?

إِذْidhWhen,قَالَqāla[he] saidلَهُمْlahumto themشُعَيْبٌshuʿaybunShuaib,أَلَاalā"Will notتَتَّقُونَtattaqūnayou [all] be righteous? ﴿١٧٧﴾

[26:178] "I am an honest messenger to you.

إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amلَكُمْlakumto you [all]رَسُولٌrasūluna messengerأَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest. ﴿١٧٨﴾

[26:179] "You shall reverence GOD, and obey me.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqū"So reverence [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodوَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me [you all]. ﴿١٧٩﴾

[26:180] "I do not ask you for any wage; my wage comes only from the Lord of the universe.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْasalukumI ask you [all]عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itمِنْminanyأَجْرٍajrinpayment / wage.إِنْinNot (is)أَجْرِىَajriyamy payment / wageإِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٨٠﴾

[26:181] "You shall give full measure when you trade; do not cheat.

أَوْفُوا۟awfū"Give full [you all]ٱلْكَيْلَl-kayla[the] measureوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَكُونُوا۟takūnū[you all] beمِنَminaamongٱلْمُخْسِرِينَl-mukh'sirīnathose who cause loss (*cheat). ﴿١٨١﴾

[26:182] "You shall weigh with an equitable scale.

وَزِنُوا۟wazinū"And weigh [you all]بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِbil-qis'ṭāsiwith the balance / scale,ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِl-mus'taqīmi[the] proper / even / right (equitable). ﴿١٨٢﴾

[26:183] "Do not cheat the people out of their rights, and do not roam the earth corruptingly.

وَلَاwalā"And (do) notتَبْخَسُوا۟tabkhasūyou [all] cheatٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa[the] people (of)أَشْيَآءَهُمْashyāahumtheir things / affairs in any way (rights),وَلَاwalāand (do) notتَعْثَوْا۟taʿthawyou [all] commit evil / act wickedlyفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth,مُفْسِدِينَmuf'sidīna[ones] spreading corruption. ﴿١٨٣﴾

[26:184] "Reverence the One who created you and the previous generations."

وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqū"And reverence [you all]ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoخَلَقَكُمْkhalaqakumHe created you [all]وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَwal-jibilataand the generationsٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former / previous / past [ones]." ﴿١٨٤﴾

[26:185] They said, "You are bewitched.

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,إِنَّمَآinnamā"Onlyأَنتَantayou (are)مِنَminaamongٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَl-musaḥarīnathose bewitched. ﴿١٨٥﴾

[26:186] "You are no more than a human being like us. In fact, we think you are a liar.

وَمَآwamā"And notأَنتَantayou (are)إِلَّاillāexceptبَشَرٌbasharuna manمِّثْلُنَاmith'lunālike us,وَإِنwa-inand indeed,نَّظُنُّكَnaẓunnukawe think you (are)لَمِنَlaminasurely ofٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars. ﴿١٨٦﴾

[26:187] "Let masses from the sky fall on us, if you are truthful."

فَأَسْقِطْfa-asqiṭ"Then drop / collapseعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon usكِسَفًاkisafanfragments / pieces / massesمِّنَminaofٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky,إِنinifكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنَminaamongٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful [ones]." ﴿١٨٧﴾

[26:188] He said, "My Lord is the One who knows everything you do."

قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّىٓrabbī"My Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows bestبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou [all] do." ﴿١٨٨﴾

[26:189] They disbelieved him and, consequently, they incurred the retribution of the Day of the Canopy. It was the retribution of an awesome day.

فَكَذَّبُوهُfakadhabūhuBut they denied / disbelieved him,فَأَخَذَهُمْfa-akhadhahumso [it] seized them / afflicted themعَذَابُʿadhābu(the) retribution (of)يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day (of)ٱلظُّلَّةِl-ẓulatithe Shadow / Canopy.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed itكَانَkāna[it] wasعَذَابَʿadhāba(the) retributionيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a dayعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat / awesome. ﴿١٨٩﴾

[26:190] This should be a lesson, but most people are not believers.

إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lessonوَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānawereأَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٩٠﴾

[26:191] Most assuredly, your Lord is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَهُوَlahuwasurely He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful. ﴿١٩١﴾

[26:192] This is a revelation from the Lord of the universe.

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, itلَتَنزِيلُlatanzīlusurely a Revelation (from)رَبِّrabbi(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿١٩٢﴾

[26:193] The Honest Spirit (Gabriel) came down with it.

نَزَلَnazala[He] sent down / brought downبِهِbihiwith itٱلرُّوحُl-rūḥuthe Spirit (*Gabriel)ٱلْأَمِينُl-amīnu[the] Trustworthy / Honest, ﴿١٩٣﴾

[26:194] To reveal it into your heart, that you may be one of the warners.

عَلَىٰʿalāUponقَلْبِكَqalbikayour heart,لِتَكُونَlitakūnathat you [all] may beمِنَminaofٱلْمُنذِرِينَl-mundhirīnathe warners. ﴿١٩٤﴾

[26:195] In a perfect Arabic tongue.

بِلِسَانٍbilisāninIn language / tongueعَرَبِىٍّʿarabiyyinArabicمُّبِينٍmubīninclear. ﴿١٩٥﴾

[26:196] It has been prophesied in the books of previous generations.

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed it (is)لَفِىlafīsurely inزُبُرِzuburi(the) scriptures / books (of)ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former [ones] (people) / past generations. ﴿١٩٦﴾

[26:197] Is it not a sufficient sign for them that it was known to the scholars among the Children of Israel?

أَوَلَمْawalamIs notيَكُنyakunit beلَّهُمْlahumfor themءَايَةًāyatana signأَنanthatيَعْلَمَهُۥyaʿlamahu[he] knows itعُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ʿulamāu(the) scholars (of)بَنِىٓbanī(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel? ﴿١٩٧﴾

[26:198] If we revealed this to people who do not know Arabic.

وَلَوْwalawAnd ifنَزَّلْنَـٰهُnazzalnāhuwe revealed itعَلَىٰʿalātoبَعْضِbaʿḍisome / any (of)ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَl-aʿjamīnathe non-Arabs. ﴿١٩٨﴾

[26:199] And had him recite it (in Arabic), they could not possibly believe in it.

فَقَرَأَهُۥfaqara-ahuAnd he recited itعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimto them,مَّاmānotكَانُوا۟kānūthey would (be)بِهِۦbihiin itمُؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers. ﴿١٩٩﴾

[26:200] We thus render it (like a foreign language) in the hearts of the guilty.

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusسَلَكْنَـٰهُsalaknāhuwe caused it to take root / insert it / render itفِىfīintoقُلُوبِqulūbi(the) hearts (of)ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe guilty ones. ﴿٢٠٠﴾

[26:201] Thus, they cannot believe in it; not until they see the painful retribution.

لَاlāNotيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believeبِهِۦbihiin itحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilيَرَوُا۟yarawūthey seeٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe retributionٱلْأَلِيمَl-alīmathe painful. ﴿٢٠١﴾

[26:202] It will come to them suddenly, when they least expect it.

فَيَأْتِيَهُمfayatiyahumAnd it will come to themبَغْتَةًbaghtatansuddenly,وَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَاlā(do) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūna[they] perceive. ﴿٢٠٢﴾

[26:203] They will then say, "Can we have a respite?"

فَيَقُولُوا۟fayaqūlūThen they will say,هَلْhal"Canنَحْنُnaḥnuwe (be)مُنظَرُونَmunẓarūnaones who are respited?" ﴿٢٠٣﴾

[26:204] Did they not challenge our retribution?

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَاafabiʿadhābināSo is it in our punishment / retributionيَسْتَعْجِلُونَyastaʿjilūnathey seek to challenge / hasten? ﴿٢٠٤﴾

[26:205] As you see, we allowed them to enjoy for years.

أَفَرَءَيْتَafara-aytaThen have you seenإِنinindeedمَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْmattaʿnāhumwe had them enjoyسِنِينَsinīna(for) years. ﴿٢٠٥﴾

[26:206] Then the retribution came to them, just as promised.

ثُمَّthummaThenجَآءَهُمjāahumit came to themمَّاmāwhatكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūna[they] promised. ﴿٢٠٦﴾

[26:207] Their vast resources did not help them in the least.

مَآmāNotأَغْنَىٰaghnāit availed / helpedعَنْهُمʿanhum[for] themمَّاmāwhatكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereيُمَتَّعُونَyumattaʿūna[they] given enjoyment / resources? ﴿٢٠٧﴾

[26:208] We never annihilate any community without sending warners.

وَمَآwamāAnd notأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāwe destroyed / annihilatedمِنminanyقَرْيَةٍqaryatintown / communityإِلَّاillāexceptلَهَاlahāfor itمُنذِرُونَmundhirūnawarners. ﴿٢٠٨﴾

[26:209] Therefore, this is a reminder, for we are never unjust.

ذِكْرَىٰdhik'rā(To) remind,وَمَاwamāand notكُنَّاkunnāwe wereظَـٰلِمِينَẓālimīnawrongdoers / unjust [ones]. ﴿٢٠٩﴾

[26:210] The devils can never reveal this.

وَمَاwamāAnd notتَنَزَّلَتْtanazzalat[it] brought down / revealedبِهِbihiin itٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُl-shayāṭīnuthe devils. ﴿٢١٠﴾

*26:210 A false messenger is a messenger of Satan, for he is the fabricator of the most horrendous lie. Such a messenger can never denounce idolatry, or preach the worship of God ALONE.

[26:211] They neither would, nor could.

وَمَاwamāAnd notيَنۢبَغِىyanbaghīit befittingلَهُمْlahum[for] themوَمَاwamāand notيَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey are able. ﴿٢١١﴾

[26:212] For they are prevented from hearing.

إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyعَنِʿanifromٱلسَّمْعِl-samʿithe hearingلَمَعْزُولُونَlamaʿzūlūnasurely ones who are isolated / kept aloof / prevented. ﴿٢١٢﴾

[26:213] Therefore, do not idolize beside GOD any other god, lest you incur the retribution.

فَلَاfalāSo (do) notتَدْعُtadʿuyou invoke / imploreمَعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod,إِلَـٰهًاilāhangodءَاخَرَākharaanotherفَتَكُونَfatakūnalest you beمِنَminaamongٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَl-muʿadhabīnathose punished. ﴿٢١٣﴾

[26:214] You shall preach to the people who are closest to you.

وَأَنذِرْwa-andhirAnd warn / preachعَشِيرَتَكَʿashīratakayour companionsٱلْأَقْرَبِينَl-aqrabīna[the] closest [ones]. ﴿٢١٤﴾

*26:214-223 These verses refer to God's Messenger of the Covenant: the sum of the gematrical value of "Rashad Khalifa" (1230), plus the verse number (214) is 1230+ 214=1444=19x76= 19x19x4, and the sum of the verse numbers from 214 through 223 is 2185=19x115 (Appendix 1).

[26:215] And lower your wing for the believers who follow you.

وَٱخْفِضْwa-ikh'fiḍAnd lowerجَنَاحَكَjanāḥakayour wingلِمَنِlimanito (those) whoٱتَّبَعَكَittabaʿaka[he] followed youمِنَminaamongٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers. ﴿٢١٥﴾

[26:216] If they disobey you, then say, "I disown what you do."

فَإِنْfa-inThen ifعَصَوْكَʿaṣawkathey disobeyed youفَقُلْfaqulthen say,إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amبَرِىٓءٌbarīonfree from obligations / disown / innocentمِّمَّاmimmāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou [all] do." ﴿٢١٦﴾

[26:217] And put your trust in the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَتَوَكَّلْwatawakkalAnd put (your) trustعَلَىʿalāinٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe Almighty,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful. ﴿٢١٧﴾

[26:218] Who sees you when you meditate during the night.

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One whoيَرَىٰكَyarākaHe sees youحِينَḥīnawhenتَقُومُtaqūmuyou stand up / meditate (at night) ﴿٢١٨﴾

[26:219] And your frequent prostrations.

وَتَقَلُّبَكَwataqallubakaAnd your movements / back and forthفِىfīamongٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَl-sājidīnathe ones prostrating. ﴿٢١٩﴾

[26:220] He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, [He]هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿuthe Hearer,ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe Omniscient. ﴿٢٢٠﴾

[26:221] Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?

هَلْhalShallأُنَبِّئُكُمْunabbi-ukumI inform you [all]عَلَىٰʿalāuponمَنmanwhomتَنَزَّلُtanazzalu[it] descendsٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُl-shayāṭīnuthe devils? ﴿٢٢١﴾

[26:222] They descend upon every guilty fabricator.

تَنَزَّلُtanazzalu(They) [it] descendعَلَىٰʿalāuponكُلِّkullieveryأَفَّاكٍaffākinliar / fabricatorأَثِيمٍathīminsinful / guilty. ﴿٢٢٢﴾

[26:223] They pretend to listen, but most of them are liars.

يُلْقُونَyul'qūnaThey pass over / lendٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿa[the] listening / ear (*pretend to listen),وَأَكْثَرُهُمْwa-aktharuhumand most of them (are)كَـٰذِبُونَkādhibūnaliars. ﴿٢٢٣﴾

[26:224] As for the poets, they are followed only by the strayers.

وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُwal-shuʿarāuAnd the poetsيَتَّبِعُهُمُyattabiʿuhumu[he] follow themٱلْغَاوُۥنَl-ghāwūnathe strayers. ﴿٢٢٤﴾

[26:225] Do you not see that their loyalty shifts according to the situation?

أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyفِىfīin*كُلِّkullievery*وَادٍwādinvalley*يَهِيمُونَyahīmūna[they] roam / fall in love / wander aimlessly (*their loyalty shifts according to the situation). ﴿٢٢٥﴾

[26:226] And that they say what they do not do?

وَأَنَّهُمْwa-annahumAnd that theyيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna[they] sayمَاmāwhatلَاlānotيَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūnathey do? ﴿٢٢٦﴾

[26:227] Exempted are those who believe, lead a righteous life, commemorate GOD frequently, and stand up for their rights. Surely, the transgressors will find out what their ultimate destiny is.

إِلَّاillāExceptٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūthey believedوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand [they] didٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deedsوَذَكَرُوا۟wadhakarūand they commemoratedٱللَّهَl-lahaGodكَثِيرًاkathīranmuch / frequently,وَٱنتَصَرُوا۟wa-intaṣarūand they defended themselves*مِنۢminfrom*بَعْدِbaʿdiafter*مَاmā[when]*ظُلِمُوا۟ẓulimūthey were wronged (*they stand up for their rights).وَسَيَعْلَمُwasayaʿlamuAnd [he] will know / find outٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoظَلَمُوٓا۟ẓalamū[they] did wrong / transgressedأَىَّayyawhatمُنقَلَبٍmunqalabinplace of return / end / final destinyيَنقَلِبُونَyanqalibūnathey will return. ﴿٢٢٧﴾
