In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[19:1] K. H. Y. 'A. S.* (Kãf Hã Yã 'Ayn Sãd)
كٓهيعٓصٓkaf-ha-ya-ain-sadK.H.Y.'A.S. ﴿١﴾
*19:1 This is the maximum number of Quranic Initials, because this sura deals with such crucial matters as the miraculous birth of John and the virgin birth of Jesus, and strongly condemns the gross blasphemy that considers Jesus to be a son of God. The five initials provide a powerful physical evidence to support these issues (See Appendices 1 & 22).
Zachariah
[19:2] A narration about your Lord's mercy towards His servant Zachariah.
ذِكْرُdhik'ruA mention / reminder / narration (of)رَحْمَتِraḥmati(the) mercyرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordعَبْدَهُۥʿabdahu(to) His servantزَكَرِيَّآzakariyyāZachariah. ﴿٢﴾
[19:3] He called his Lord, a secret call.
إِذْidhWhenنَادَىٰnādāhe calledرَبَّهُۥrabbahu(to) his Lordنِدَآءًnidāana callخَفِيًّاkhafiyyansecret. ﴿٣﴾
[19:4] He said, "My Lord, the bones have turned brittle in my body, and my hair is aflame with gray. As I implore You, my Lord, I never despair.
قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!إِنِّىinnīIndeed, [I]وَهَنَwahana[it] weakenedٱلْعَظْمُl-ʿaẓmuthe boneمِنِّىminnīfrom meوَٱشْتَعَلَwa-ish'taʿalaand [it] aflamedٱلرَّأْسُl-rasu[the] headشَيْبًاshayban(with) gray,وَلَمْwalamand notأَكُنۢakunI amبِدُعَآئِكَbiduʿāikain my prayers to Youرَبِّrabbimy Lordشَقِيًّاshaqiyyanunhappy / despair. ﴿٤﴾
[19:5] "I worry about my dependants after me, and my wife has been sterile. Grant me, from You, an heir.
وَإِنِّىwa-innī"And indeed, Iخِفْتُkhif'tu[I] fearٱلْمَوَٰلِىَl-mawāliyathe successors / inheritorsمِنminfromوَرَآءِىwarāīafter me,وَكَانَتِwakānatiand [she] becameٱمْرَأَتِىim'ra-atīmy wifeعَاقِرًاʿāqiranbarren / sterile.فَهَبْfahabSo give / bestow / grantلِىlīfor meمِنminfromلَّدُنكَladunkaYourselfوَلِيًّاwaliyyanan heir. ﴿٥﴾
[19:6] "Let him be my heir and the heir of Jacob's clan, and make him, my Lord, acceptable."
يَرِثُنِىyarithunī"He be my heir / He inherit from meوَيَرِثُwayarithuand he inheritمِنْminfromءَالِāli(the) family (of)يَعْقُوبَyaʿqūbaJacob.وَٱجْعَلْهُwa-ij'ʿalhuAnd make himرَبِّrabbimy Lord,رَضِيًّاraḍiyyanpleasing." ﴿٦﴾
John
[19:7] "O Zachariah, we give you good news; a boy whose name shall be John (Yahya). We never created anyone like him before."
يَـٰزَكَرِيَّآyāzakariyyā"O Zachariah!إِنَّاinnāIndeed, weنُبَشِّرُكَnubashiruka[we] give good news to youبِغُلَـٰمٍbighulāminof a boyٱسْمُهُۥus'muhuhis nameيَحْيَىٰyaḥyā(will be) John,لَمْlamnotنَجْعَلnajʿalwe create / makeلَّهُۥlahu[of] himمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubeforeسَمِيًّاsamiyyan(in) similarity / namesake." ﴿٧﴾
[19:8] He said, "My Lord, will I have a son despite my wife's sterility, and despite my old age?"
قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!أَنَّىٰannāHow (can)يَكُونُyakūnuit beلِىlīfor meغُلَـٰمٌghulāmuna boy,وَكَانَتِwakānatiwhile [she] wasٱمْرَأَتِىim'ra-atīmy wifeعَاقِرًاʿāqiranbarren / sterile,وَقَدْwaqadand indeed,بَلَغْتُbalaghtuI reachedمِنَminaofٱلْكِبَرِl-kibarithe old ageعِتِيًّاʿitiyyanextreme?" ﴿٨﴾
[19:9] He said, "Thus said your Lord: 'It is easy for Me to do. I created you before that, and you were nothing.'"
قَالَqālaHe said,كَذَٰلِكَkadhālika"Thus,قَالَqāla[He] saidرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord,هُوَhuwaIt (is)عَلَىَّʿalayyafor Meهَيِّنٌhayyinuninsignificant / easy,وَقَدْwaqadand certainlyخَلَقْتُكَkhalaqtukaI created youمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubefore,وَلَمْwalamwhile notتَكُtakuyou wereشَيْـًٔاshayananything.'" ﴿٩﴾
[19:10] He said, "My Lord, give me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three consecutive nights."
قَالَqālaHe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!ٱجْعَلij'ʿalMakeلِّىٓlīfor meءَايَةًāyatana sign."قَالَqālaHe said,ءَايَتُكَāyatuka"Your signأَلَّاallā(is) that notتُكَلِّمَtukallimayou will speakٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(to) the people,ثَلَـٰثَthalātha(for) threeلَيَالٍlayālinnightsسَوِيًّاsawiyyansuccessive / consecutive." ﴿١٠﴾
[19:11] He came out to his family, from the sanctuary, and signaled to them: "Meditate (on GOD) day and night."
فَخَرَجَfakharajaThen he came outعَلَىٰʿalātoقَوْمِهِۦqawmihihis peopleمِنَminafromٱلْمِحْرَابِl-miḥ'rābithe prayer chamber / sanctuary,فَأَوْحَىٰٓfa-awḥāand he signaledإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themأَنanthatسَبِّحُوا۟sabbiḥūglorify (God) [you all]بُكْرَةًbuk'ratan(in the) morning / dayوَعَشِيًّاwaʿashiyyanand (the) evening / night. ﴿١١﴾
[19:12] "O John, you shall uphold the scripture, strongly." We endowed him with wisdom, even in his youth.
يَـٰيَحْيَىٰyāyaḥyā"O John!خُذِkhudhiTake / Hold / Upholdٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe scriptureبِقُوَّةٍbiquwwatinwith strength (*strongly)."وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuAnd we gave himٱلْحُكْمَl-ḥuk'ma[the] wisdomصَبِيًّاṣabiyyan(when he was) a child. ﴿١٢﴾
[19:13] And (we endowed him with) kindness from us and purity, for he was righteous.
وَحَنَانًاwaḥanānanAnd affection / kindnessمِّنminfromلَّدُنَّاladunnāusوَزَكَوٰةًwazakatanand purityوَكَانَwakānaand he wasتَقِيًّاtaqiyyanrighteous. ﴿١٣﴾
[19:14] He honored his parents, and was never a disobedient tyrant.
وَبَرًّۢاwabarranAnd he was dutiful / dealt benevolently / honoredبِوَٰلِدَيْهِbiwālidayhi[with] his parents,وَلَمْwalamand notيَكُنyakunhe beجَبَّارًاjabbārana tyrantعَصِيًّاʿaṣiyyandisobedient. ﴿١٤﴾
[19:15] Peace be upon him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he is resurrected back to life.
وَسَلَـٰمٌwasalāmunAnd peace (be)عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon himيَوْمَyawma(the) dayوُلِدَwulidahe was bornوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (the) dayيَمُوتُyamūtuhe diesوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (the) dayيُبْعَثُyub'ʿathuhe will be resurrectedحَيًّاḥayyanalive. ﴿١٥﴾
Mary
[19:16] Mention in the scripture Mary. She isolated herself from her family, into an eastern location.
وَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd mentionفِىfīinٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe book / scriptureمَرْيَمَmaryamaMary,إِذِidhiwhenٱنتَبَذَتْintabadhatshe withdrewمِنْminfromأَهْلِهَاahlihāher familyمَكَانًاmakānan(to) a placeشَرْقِيًّاsharqiyyaneastern. ﴿١٦﴾
[19:17] While a barrier separated her from them, we sent to her our Spirit. He went to her in the form of a human being.
فَٱتَّخَذَتْfa-ittakhadhatThen she tookمِنminfromدُونِهِمْdūnihimaside themحِجَابًاḥijābana barrier.فَأَرْسَلْنَآfa-arsalnāThen we sentإِلَيْهَاilayhāto herرُوحَنَاrūḥanāour Spirit.فَتَمَثَّلَfatamathala Then it take the formلَهَاlahāfor her (of)بَشَرًاbasharana human beingسَوِيًّاsawiyyanhealthy / sound. ﴿١٧﴾
[19:18] She said, "I seek refuge in the Most Gracious, that you may be righteous."
قَالَتْqālatShe said,إِنِّىٓinnī"Indeed, Iأَعُوذُaʿūdhu[I] seek refugeبِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِbil-raḥmāniin (the) Most Graciousمِنكَminkafrom you;إِنinifكُنتَkuntayou wereتَقِيًّاtaqiyyanrighteous." ﴿١٨﴾
[19:19] He said, "I am the messenger of your Lord, to grant you a pure son."
قَالَqālaHe said,إِنَّمَآinnamā"Onlyأَنَا۠anāI amرَسُولُrasūlua messengerرَبِّكِrabbiki(of) your Lord,لِأَهَبَli-ahabathat I may bestowلَكِlakito youغُلَـٰمًاghulāmana sonزَكِيًّاzakiyyanpure." ﴿١٩﴾
[19:20] She said, "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me; I have never been unchaste."
قَالَتْqālatShe said,أَنَّىٰannā"How (can)يَكُونُyakūnuit beلِىlīfor meغُلَـٰمٌghulāmuna son,وَلَمْwalamand notيَمْسَسْنِىyamsasnī[he] has touched meبَشَرٌbasharuna man,وَلَمْwalamand notأَكُakuI amبَغِيًّاbaghiyyanunchaste?" ﴿٢٠﴾
[19:21] He said, "Thus said your Lord, 'It is easy for Me. We will render him a sign for the people, and mercy from us. This is a predestined matter.'"
قَالَqālaHe said,كَذَٰلِكِkadhāliki"Thus;قَالَqāla[He] saidرَبُّكِrabbukiyour Lord,هُوَhuwa 'It (is)عَلَىَّʿalayyafor Meهَيِّنٌhayyinuninsignificant / easy,وَلِنَجْعَلَهُۥٓwalinajʿalahuand so that we may make himءَايَةًāyatana signلِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the peopleوَرَحْمَةًwaraḥmatanand a mercyمِّنَّاminnāfrom us.وَكَانَwakānaAnd it wasأَمْرًاamrana command,مَّقْضِيًّاmaqḍiyyandecreed.'" ﴿٢١﴾
The Birth of Jesus
[19:22] When she bore him, she isolated herself to a faraway place.
فَحَمَلَتْهُfaḥamalathuSo she conceived himفَٱنتَبَذَتْfa-intabadhatand she withdrewبِهِۦbihiwith himمَكَانًاmakānan(to) a placeقَصِيًّاqaṣiyyanfar away / remote / isolated. ﴿٢٢﴾
[19:23] The birth process came to her by the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "(I am so ashamed;) I wish I were dead before this happened, and completely forgotten."
فَأَجَآءَهَاfa-ajāahāThen [it] came to herٱلْمَخَاضُl-makhāḍuthe pangs of childbirthإِلَىٰilāatجِذْعِjidh'ʿi(the) trunk (of)ٱلنَّخْلَةِl-nakhlatithe date-palm.قَالَتْqālatShe said,يَـٰلَيْتَنِىyālaytanī"Oh, I wish (that)مِتُّmittuI diedقَبْلَqablabeforeهَـٰذَاhādhāthisوَكُنتُwakuntuand I wasنَسْيًاnasyana thing [forgotten]مَّنسِيًّاmansiyyanforgotten." ﴿٢٣﴾
[19:24] (The infant) called her from beneath her, saying, "Do not grieve. Your Lord has provided you with a stream.
فَنَادَىٰهَاfanādāhāSo he called to herمِنminfromتَحْتِهَآtaḥtihābeneath her,أَلَّاallā"Do notتَحْزَنِىtaḥzanī[you] grieve.قَدْqadVerily,جَعَلَjaʿala[He] placedرَبُّكِrabbukiyour Lordتَحْتَكِtaḥtakibeneath you,سَرِيًّاsariyyana stream. ﴿٢٤﴾
[19:25] "If you shake the trunk of this palm tree, it will drop ripe dates for you.*
وَهُزِّىٓwahuzzī"And shakeإِلَيْكِilaykitowards youبِجِذْعِbijidh'ʿiof (the) trunk (of)ٱلنَّخْلَةِl-nakhlatithe date-palm,تُسَـٰقِطْtusāqiṭit will dropعَلَيْكِʿalaykiupon youرُطَبًاruṭabanfresh datesجَنِيًّاjaniyyanripe. ﴿٢٥﴾
*19:25 Thus, Jesus was born in late September or early October. This is when dates ripen in the Middle East to the point of falling off the tree.
[19:26] "Eat and drink, and be happy. When you see anyone, say, 'I have made a vow of silence; I am not talking today to anyone.' "
فَكُلِىfakulī"So eatوَٱشْرَبِىwa-ish'rabīand drinkوَقَرِّىwaqarrīand cool*عَيْنًاʿaynan(your) eye (*be happy / relieved).فَإِمَّاfa-immāAnd ifتَرَيِنَّtarayinnayou both seeمِنَminafromٱلْبَشَرِl-bashari[the] human beingأَحَدًاaḥadananyoneفَقُولِىٓfaqūlīthen say,إِنِّىinnī 'Indeed, Iنَذَرْتُnadhartu[I] vowedلِلرَّحْمَـٰنِlilrraḥmānito (the) Most Graciousصَوْمًاṣawmana fast / abstenation,فَلَنْfalanso notأُكَلِّمَukallimaI will speakٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayإِنسِيًّاinsiyyan(to any) human being.' " ﴿٢٦﴾
[19:27] She came to her family, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have committed something that is totally unexpected.
فَأَتَتْfa-atatThen she cameبِهِۦbihiwith himقَوْمَهَاqawmahā(to) her people,تَحْمِلُهُۥtaḥmiluhu[she] carrying him.قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,يَـٰمَرْيَمُyāmaryamu"O Mary!لَقَدْlaqadCertainly,جِئْتِji'tiyou broughtشَيْـًٔاshayana thingفَرِيًّاfariyyantotally unexpected. ﴿٢٧﴾
[19:28] "O descendant of Aaron, your father was not a bad man, nor was your mother unchaste."
يَـٰٓأُخْتَyāukh'ta"O descendant (of)هَـٰرُونَhārūnaAaron!مَاmāNotكَانَkāna[he] wasأَبُوكِabūkiyour fatherٱمْرَأَim'ra-amanسَوْءٍsawinevil / badوَمَاwamāand notكَانَتْkānat[she] wasأُمُّكِummukiyour motherبَغِيًّاbaghiyyanunchaste." ﴿٢٨﴾
The Infant Makes a Statement
[19:29] She pointed to him. They said, "How can we talk with an infant in the crib?"
فَأَشَارَتْfa-ashāratThen she pointedإِلَيْهِilayhito him.قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,كَيْفَkayfa"How (can)نُكَلِّمُnukallimuwe speakمَنman(to one) whoكَانَkāna[he] wasفِىfīinٱلْمَهْدِl-mahdithe crib,صَبِيًّاṣabiyyana child (infant)?" ﴿٢٩﴾
[19:30] (The infant spoke and) said, "I am a servant of GOD. He has given me the scripture, and has appointed me a prophet.
قَالَqālaHe said,إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, I amعَبْدُʿabdua servantٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God.ءَاتَىٰنِىَātāniyaHe gave meٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe scriptureوَجَعَلَنِىwajaʿalanīand He made meنَبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٣٠﴾
[19:31] "He made me blessed wherever I go, and enjoined me to observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and the obligatory charity (Zakat) for as long as I live.
وَجَعَلَنِىwajaʿalanī"And He made meمُبَارَكًاmubārakana place to be blessedأَيْنَayna where*مَاmāthat (*wherever)كُنتُkuntuI amوَأَوْصَـٰنِىwa-awṣānīand He enjoined meبِٱلصَّلَوٰةِbil-ṣalatiin the Contact Prayer (Salat)وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِwal-zakatiand the Obligatory Charity (Zakat),مَاmā as long asدُمْتُdum'tuI remainedحَيًّاḥayyanalive. ﴿٣١﴾
[19:32] "I am to honor my mother; He did not make me a disobedient rebel.
وَبَرًّۢاwabarran"And to be dutiful / deal benevolently / honorبِوَٰلِدَتِىbiwālidatīto my mother,وَلَمْwalamand notيَجْعَلْنِىyajʿalnīHe made meجَبَّارًاjabbārana tyrantشَقِيًّاshaqiyyanwretched / miserable. ﴿٣٢﴾
[19:33] "And peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I get resurrected."
وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُwal-salāmu"And [the] peace (be)عَلَىَّʿalayyaupon meيَوْمَyawma(the) dayوُلِدتُّwulidttuI was bornوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (the) dayأَمُوتُamūtuI diedوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (the) Dayأُبْعَثُub'ʿathuI am resurrectedحَيًّاḥayyanalive." ﴿٣٣﴾
The Proven Truth
[19:34] That was Jesus, the son of Mary, and this is the truth of this matter, about which they continue to doubt.
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat (was)عِيسَىʿīsāJesus,ٱبْنُub'nuson (of)مَرْيَمَmaryamaMary,قَوْلَqawlaa statementٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth (*truthful)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthat whichفِيهِfīhiabout itيَمْتَرُونَyamtarūnathey dispute / doubt. ﴿٣٤﴾
[19:35] It does not befit GOD that He begets a son, be He glorified. To have anything done, He simply says to it, "Be," and it is.
مَاmāNotكَانَkānait becameلِلَّهِlillahiof GodأَنanthatيَتَّخِذَyattakhidhaHe (should) take / begetمِنminofوَلَدٍwaladina son.سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓsub'ḥānahuGlory be to Him!إِذَاidhāWhenقَضَىٰٓqaḍāHe decreedأَمْرًاamrana matter / command,فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَقُولُyaqūluHe saysلَهُۥlahuto it,كُنkun"Be"فَيَكُونُfayakūnuand it is. ﴿٣٥﴾
[19:36] He also proclaimed, "GOD is my Lord and your Lord; you shall worship Him alone. This is the right path."*
وَإِنَّwa-inna"And indeed,ٱللَّهَl-lahaGod (is)رَبِّىrabbīmy Lordوَرَبُّكُمْwarabbukumand your Lord,فَٱعْبُدُوهُfa-uʿ'budūhuso worship Him [you all].هَـٰذَاhādhāThis (is)صِرَٰطٌṣirāṭuna pathمُّسْتَقِيمٌmus'taqīmunstraight." ﴿٣٦﴾
*19:36 This is similar to the statement attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John 20:17.
[19:37] The various parties disputed among themselves (regarding the identity of Jesus). Therefore, woe to those who disbelieve from the sight of a terrible day.
فَٱخْتَلَفَfa-ikh'talafaBut [he] differed / disputedٱلْأَحْزَابُl-aḥzābuthe sects / various groups / opponentsمِنۢminfromبَيْنِهِمْbaynihimamong them,فَوَيْلٌfawaylunso woeلِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelievedمِنminfromمَّشْهَدِmashhadi(the) place to witness / meeting placeيَوْمٍyawmin(of) a Dayعَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat. ﴿٣٧﴾
[19:38] Wait till you hear them and see them when they come to face us. The transgressors on that day will be totally lost.
أَسْمِعْasmiʿCan hear*بِهِمْbihimof them*وَأَبْصِرْwa-abṣirand can see (*Wait till you hear them and see them)يَوْمَyawma(the) Dayيَأْتُونَنَاyatūnanāthey come to us,لَـٰكِنِlākinibutٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoersٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayفِىfī(are) inضَلَـٰلٍḍalālinerror / astrayمُّبِينٍmubīninclear. ﴿٣٨﴾
[19:39] Warn them about the day of remorse, when judgment will be issued. They are totally oblivious; they do not believe.
وَأَنذِرْهُمْwa-andhir'humAnd warn them (of)يَوْمَyawma(the) Day (of)ٱلْحَسْرَةِl-ḥasratithe remorse,إِذْidhwhenقُضِىَquḍiya[it] was settled / decidedٱلْأَمْرُl-amruthe matter.وَهُمْwahumAnd they (are)فِىfīinغَفْلَةٍghaflatinheedlessness / totally oblivious,وَهُمْwahumand theyلَاlā(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna[they] believe. ﴿٣٩﴾
[19:40] We are the ones who inherit the earth and everyone on it; to us everyone will be returned.
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, [we]نَحْنُnaḥnuweنَرِثُnarithu[we] will inheritٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthوَمَنْwamanand whoeverعَلَيْهَاʿalayhā(is) on it,وَإِلَيْنَاwa-ilaynāand to usيُرْجَعُونَyur'jaʿūnathey will return. ﴿٤٠﴾
Abraham
[19:41] Mention in the scripture Abraham; he was a saint, a prophet.
وَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd mentionفِىfīinٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe scriptureإِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaAbraham.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasصِدِّيقًاṣiddīqana man of truth / trustworthy / saint,نَّبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٤١﴾
[19:42] He said to his father, "O my father, why do you worship what can neither hear, nor see, nor help you in any way?
إِذْidhWhenقَالَqālahe saidلِأَبِيهِli-abīhito his father,يَـٰٓأَبَتِyāabati"O my father!لِمَlimaWhy (do)تَعْبُدُtaʿbuduyou worshipمَاmāwhatلَاlānotيَسْمَعُyasmaʿu[it] hearsوَلَاwalāand notيُبْصِرُyub'ṣiru[it] seesوَلَاwalāand notيُغْنِىyugh'nī[it] helps / availsعَنكَʿankafor youشَيْـًٔاshayan(in) anything? ﴿٤٢﴾
[19:43] "O my father, I have received certain knowledge that you did not receive. Follow me, and I will guide you in a straight path.
يَـٰٓأَبَتِyāabati"O my father!إِنِّىinnīIndeed, [I]قَدْqadverilyجَآءَنِىjāanī[it] came to meمِنَminaofٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mithe knowledgeمَاmāwhatلَمْlamnotيَأْتِكَyatikait came to you,فَٱتَّبِعْنِىٓfa-ittabiʿ'nīso [you] follow meأَهْدِكَahdikaI will guide you (to)صِرَٰطًاṣirāṭan(the) pathسَوِيًّاsawiyyanright / straight. ﴿٤٣﴾
[19:44] "O my father, do not worship the devil. The devil has rebelled against the Most Gracious.
يَـٰٓأَبَتِyāabati"O my father!لَاlā(Do) notتَعْبُدِtaʿbudi[you] worshipٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَl-shayṭānathe devil.إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَl-shayṭānathe devilكَانَkāna[he] becameلِلرَّحْمَـٰنِlilrraḥmānito (the) Most Graciousعَصِيًّاʿaṣiyyanrebellious. ﴿٤٤﴾
[19:45] "O my father, I fear lest you incur retribution from the Most Gracious, then become an ally of the devil."
يَـٰٓأَبَتِyāabati"O my father!إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearأَنanthatيَمَسَّكَyamassaka[it] will touch youعَذَابٌʿadhābuna retributionمِّنَminafromٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Gracious,فَتَكُونَfatakūnathen you will beلِلشَّيْطَـٰنِlilshayṭānito the devilوَلِيًّاwaliyyana friend / ally." ﴿٤٥﴾
[19:46] He said, "Have you forsaken my gods, O Abraham? Unless you stop, I will stone you. Leave me alone."
قَالَqālaHe said,أَرَاغِبٌarāghibun"Do (you) dislike / turn away / forsake أَنتَanta[you]عَنْʿanfromءَالِهَتِىālihatīmy gods,يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُyāib'rāhīmuO Abraham?لَئِنla-inSurely ifلَّمْlamnotتَنتَهِtantahiyou desist / stopلَأَرْجُمَنَّكَla-arjumannakasurely I will stone you,وَٱهْجُرْنِىwa-uh'jur'nīso leave meمَلِيًّاmaliyyan(for) a while." ﴿٤٦﴾
[19:47] He said, "Peace be upon you. I will implore my Lord to forgive you; He has been Most Kind to me.
قَالَqālaHe said,سَلَـٰمٌsalāmun"Peace (be)عَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon you.سَأَسْتَغْفِرُsa-astaghfiruI will ask forgivenessلَكَlakafor youرَبِّىٓrabbī(from) my Lord.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, Heكَانَkāna[He] wasبِىbīto meحَفِيًّاḥafiyyanEver Kind. ﴿٤٧﴾
[19:48] "I will abandon you and the gods you worship besides GOD. I will worship only my Lord. By imploring my Lord alone, I cannot go wrong."
وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْwa-aʿtazilukum"And I will keep away / abandon you [all]وَمَاwamāand whatتَدْعُونَtadʿūnayou [all] invoke / worshipمِنminfromدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiGodوَأَدْعُوا۟wa-adʿūand I will invoke / worshipرَبِّىrabbīmy Lord.عَسَىٰٓʿasāPerhapsأَلَّآallāthat notأَكُونَakūnaI beبِدُعَآءِbiduʿāiin invocations / implorings (of)رَبِّىrabbīmy Lordشَقِيًّاshaqiyyanunhappy / despair." ﴿٤٨﴾
[19:49] Because he abandoned them and the gods they worshiped beside GOD, we granted him Isaac and Jacob, and we made each of them a prophet.
فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenٱعْتَزَلَهُمْiʿ'tazalahumhe left / abandoned themوَمَاwamāand whatيَعْبُدُونَyaʿbudūnathey worshipمِنminfromدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiGodوَهَبْنَاwahabnāwe bestowed / grantedلَهُۥٓlahuto himإِسْحَـٰقَis'ḥāqaIsaacوَيَعْقُوبَwayaʿqūbaand Jacob,وَكُلًّاwakullanand each (of them)جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāwe madeنَبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٤٩﴾
[19:50] We showered them with our mercy, and we granted them an honorable position in history.
وَوَهَبْنَاwawahabnāAnd we bestowed / grantedلَهُمlahumto themمِّنminfromرَّحْمَتِنَاraḥmatināour mercy,وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand we madeلَهُمْlahumfor themلِسَانَlisānaa mention (of)صِدْقٍṣid'qinhonorableعَلِيًّاʿaliyyanhigh / honorable. ﴿٥٠﴾
Moses
[19:51] Mention in the scripture Moses. He was devoted, and he was a messenger prophet.
وَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd mentionفِىfīinٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe book / scripture,مُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasمُخْلَصًاmukh'laṣanchosen / exclusively devotedوَكَانَwakānaand he wasرَسُولًاrasūlana messenger,نَّبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٥١﴾
[19:52] We called him from the right side of Mount Sinai. We brought him close, to confer with him.
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُwanādaynāhuAnd we called himمِنminfromجَانِبِjānibi(the) side (of)ٱلطُّورِl-ṭūrithe Mountٱلْأَيْمَنِl-aymanithe right,وَقَرَّبْنَـٰهُwaqarrabnāhuand we brought him nearنَجِيًّاnajiyyanto confer. ﴿٥٢﴾
[19:53] And we granted him, out of our mercy, his brother Aaron as a prophet.
وَوَهَبْنَاwawahabnāAnd we bestowed / grantedلَهُۥlahuto himمِنminfromرَّحْمَتِنَآraḥmatināour mercyأَخَاهُakhāhuhis brotherهَـٰرُونَhārūnaAaron,نَبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٥٣﴾
[19:54] And mention in the scripture Ismail. He was truthful when he made a promise, and he was a messenger prophet.
وَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd mentionفِىfīinٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe book / scripture,إِسْمَـٰعِيلَis'māʿīlaIsmail.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasصَادِقَṣādiqatruthful,ٱلْوَعْدِl-waʿdi(to his) [the] promiseوَكَانَwakānaand he wasرَسُولًاrasūlana messengerنَّبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٥٤﴾
[19:55] He used to enjoin his family to observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and the obligatory charity (Zakat); he was acceptable to his Lord.
وَكَانَwakānaAnd he used toيَأْمُرُyamuru[he] enjoinأَهْلَهُۥahlahuhis familyبِٱلصَّلَوٰةِbil-ṣalatiin the Contact Prayer (Salat)وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِwal-zakatiand the Obligatory Charity (Zakat)وَكَانَwakānaand he wasعِندَʿindanearرَبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lordمَرْضِيًّاmarḍiyyanacceptable. ﴿٥٥﴾
[19:56] And mention in the scripture Idrîs. He was a saint, a prophet.
وَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurAnd mentionفِىfīinٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe book / scripture,إِدْرِيسَid'rīsaIdris.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasصِدِّيقًاṣiddīqana man of truth / trustworthy / saint,نَّبِيًّاnabiyyana prophet. ﴿٥٦﴾
[19:57] We raised him to an honorable rank.
وَرَفَعْنَـٰهُwarafaʿnāhuAnd we raised himمَكَانًاmakānan(to) a positionعَلِيًّاʿaliyyanhigh / honorable. ﴿٥٧﴾
[19:58] These are some of the prophets whom GOD blessed. They were chosen from among the descendants of Adam, and the descendants of those whom we carried with Noah, and the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom we guided and selected. When the revelations of the Most Gracious are recited to them, they fall prostrate, weeping.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose (were)ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathe ones whomأَنْعَمَanʿama[He] bestowed favor ٱللَّهُl-lahuGodعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon themمِّنَminaamongٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَl-nabiyīnathe prophets,مِنminofذُرِّيَّةِdhurriyyati(the) descendants (of)ءَادَمَādamaAdam,وَمِمَّنْwamimmanand among thoseحَمَلْنَاḥamalnāwe carriedمَعَmaʿawithنُوحٍnūḥinNoahوَمِنwaminand ofذُرِّيَّةِdhurriyyati(the) descendants (of)إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaAbrahamوَإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَwa-is'rāīlaand Israelوَمِمَّنْwamimmanand among (those) whomهَدَيْنَاhadaynāwe guidedوَٱجْتَبَيْنَآwa-ij'tabaynāand we selected.إِذَاidhāWhenتُتْلَىٰtut'lā[it] is recitedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَايَـٰتُāyātu(the) verses / revelations (of)ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Gracious,خَرُّوا۟kharrūthey fell downسُجَّدًاsujjadanprostratingوَبُكِيًّاwabukiyyanand weeping. ﴿٥٨﴾
Losing the Contact Prayers (Salat)
[19:59] After them, He substituted generations who lost the Contact Prayers (Salat), and pursued their lusts. They will suffer the consequences.
فَخَلَفَfakhalafaThen it succeededمِنۢminfromبَعْدِهِمْbaʿdihimafter themخَلْفٌkhalfunsuccessors / inheritors,أَضَاعُوا۟aḍāʿūthey neglected / lostٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe Contact Prayer (Salat)وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟wa-ittabaʿūand they followedٱلشَّهَوَٰتِl-shahawātithe lustsفَسَوْفَfasawfaso soon,يَلْقَوْنَyalqawnathey will meetغَيًّاghayyanperdition / consequences. ﴿٥٩﴾
[19:60] Only those who repent, believe, and lead a righteous life will enter Paradise, without the least injustice.
إِلَّاillāExceptمَنman(one) whoتَابَtāba[he] repentedوَءَامَنَwaāmanaand [he] believedوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand [he] didصَـٰلِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds).فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikaThen thoseيَدْخُلُونَyadkhulūnathey will enterٱلْجَنَّةَl-janata[the] Paradiseوَلَاwalāand notيُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūnathey will be wrongedشَيْـًٔاshayan(in) anything. ﴿٦٠﴾
[19:61] The gardens of Eden await them, as promised by the Most Gracious for those who worship Him, even in privacy. Certainly, His promise must come to pass.
جَنَّـٰتِjannātiGardens (of)عَدْنٍʿadninEden,ٱلَّتِىallatīwhichوَعَدَwaʿada[He] promisedٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most GraciousعِبَادَهُۥʿibādahuHis worshipersبِٱلْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiin the unseen / privacy.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, [it]كَانَkāna[it] wasوَعْدُهُۥwaʿduhuHis promiseمَأْتِيًّاmatiyyansure to come. ﴿٦١﴾
[19:62] They will not hear any nonsense therein; only peace. They receive their provisions therein, day and night.
لَّاlāNotيَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnathey hearفِيهَاfīhāthereinلَغْوًاlaghwanvain talk / nonsenseإِلَّاillābutسَلَـٰمًاsalāmanpeace.وَلَهُمْwalahumAnd for them (is)رِزْقُهُمْriz'quhumtheir provisionفِيهَاfīhātherein,بُكْرَةًbuk'ratanmorning / dayوَعَشِيًّاwaʿashiyyanand evening / night. ﴿٦٢﴾
[19:63] Such is Paradise; we grant it to those among our servants who are righteous.
تِلْكَtil'kaThis (is)ٱلْجَنَّةُl-janatuthe Paradise,ٱلَّتِىallatīwhichنُورِثُnūrithuwe give as inheritance / bequeathمِنْminuponعِبَادِنَاʿibādināour servantsمَنmanwhoكَانَkānawereتَقِيًّاtaqiyyanrighteous. ﴿٦٣﴾
[19:64] We do not come down except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs our past, our future, and everything between them. Your Lord is never forgetful.
وَمَاwamāAnd notنَتَنَزَّلُnatanazzaluwe descendإِلَّاillāexceptبِأَمْرِbi-amriby (the) commandرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord.لَهُۥlahuTo Him (belongs)مَاmāwhatبَيْنَbayna between / before*أَيْدِينَاaydīnāour hands (*before us)وَمَاwamāand what (is)خَلْفَنَاkhalfanāafter us,وَمَاwamāand what (is)بَيْنَbaynabetweenذَٰلِكَdhālikathat.وَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkāna[He] wasرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordنَسِيًّاnasiyyanforgetful. ﴿٦٤﴾
[19:65] The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them; you shall worship Him and steadfastly persevere in worshiping Him. Do you know of anyone who equals Him?
رَّبُّrabbuLord (of)ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَمَاwamāand whatever (is)بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumābetween both of them,فَٱعْبُدْهُfa-uʿ'bud'huso worship Himوَٱصْطَبِرْwa-iṣ'ṭabirand steadfastly persevereلِعِبَـٰدَتِهِۦliʿibādatihiin His worship.هَلْhalDoتَعْلَمُtaʿlamuyou knowلَهُۥlahufor Him (who)سَمِيًّاsamiyyan(in) similarity / compeer / namesake? ﴿٦٥﴾
[19:66] The human being asks, "After I die, do I come back to life?"
وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd [he] saysٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] man / human being,أَءِذَاa-idhā"What! Whenمَاmā[that]مِتُّmittuI died,لَسَوْفَlasawfasurely soonأُخْرَجُukh'rajuI am brought outحَيًّاḥayyanalive?" ﴿٦٦﴾
[19:67] Did the human being forget that we created him already, and he was nothing?
أَوَلَاawalāAnd does notيَذْكُرُyadhkuru[he] rememberٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuthe man / human being,أَنَّاannāthat we,خَلَقْنَـٰهُkhalaqnāhu[we] created himمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubefore,وَلَمْwalamwhile notيَكُyakuhe wasشَيْـًٔاshayananything? ﴿٦٧﴾
Special Warning to the Leaders
[19:68] By your Lord, we will certainly summon them, together with the devils, and will gather them around Hell, humiliated.
فَوَرَبِّكَfawarabbikaSo by your Lord,لَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْlanaḥshurannahumsurely we will summon themوَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَwal-shayāṭīnaand the devils,ثُمَّthummathenلَنُحْضِرَنَّهُمْlanuḥ'ḍirannahumsurely we will bring themحَوْلَḥawlaaroundجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellجِثِيًّاjithiyyancrouching on knees / humiliated. ﴿٦٨﴾
[19:69] Then we will pick out from each group the most ardent opponent of the Most Gracious.
ثُمَّthummaThenلَنَنزِعَنَّlananziʿannasurely we will pick out مِنminfromكُلِّkullieveryشِيعَةٍshīʿatinsect / group,أَيُّهُمْayyuhumthose of them (who were)أَشَدُّashaddu(the) vilest / worstعَلَىʿalāagainstٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousعِتِيًّاʿitiyyan(in) rebellion. ﴿٦٩﴾
[19:70] We know full well those who are most deserving of burning therein.
ثُمَّthummaThenلَنَحْنُlanaḥnusurely weأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknow bestبِٱلَّذِينَbi-alladhīnaof those whoهُمْhum[they] (are)أَوْلَىٰawlāmost worthy / most deservingبِهَاbihātherein (of)صِلِيًّاṣiliyyanburning. ﴿٧٠﴾
Everyone Sees Hell*
[19:71] Every single one of you must see it; this is an irrevocable decision of your Lord.
وَإِنwa-inAnd (there is) notمِّنكُمْminkum(any) of you [all]إِلَّاillābutوَارِدُهَاwāriduhā(will be) led down to (see) it.كَانَkānaIt wasعَلَىٰʿalāfromرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordحَتْمًاḥatmanan inevitability / irrevocableمَّقْضِيًّاmaqḍiyyandecreed / decided. ﴿٧١﴾
*19:71 As detailed in Appendix 11, we will be resurrected prior to God's physical arrival to our universe. That will be a temporary taste of Hell, since the absence of God is Hell. When God comes (89:22), the righteous will be rescued. See 19:72.
[19:72] Then we rescue the righteous, and leave the transgressors in it, humiliated.
ثُمَّthummaThenنُنَجِّىnunajjīwe will deliver / save / rescueٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoٱتَّقَوا۟ittaqawthey were righteous,وَّنَذَرُwanadharuand we will leaveٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers / transgressorsفِيهَاfīhāthereinجِثِيًّاjithiyyancrouching on knees / humiliated. ﴿٧٢﴾
The Majority
[19:73] When our revelations are recited to them, clearly, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of us is more prosperous? Which of us is in the majority?"
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenتُتْلَىٰtut'lā[it] is recitedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَايَـٰتُنَاāyātunāour verses / revelationsبَيِّنَـٰتٍbayyinātinclear / indisputable,قَالَqāla[He] saidٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelievedلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanū[they] believed,أَىُّayyu"Which (of)ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِl-farīqaynithe two groupsخَيْرٌkhayrun(is) betterمَّقَامًاmaqāman(in) position / standingوَأَحْسَنُwa-aḥsanuand best / betterنَدِيًّاnadiyyan(in) council / assembly / audience?" ﴿٧٣﴾
[19:74] Many a generation have we annihilated before them; they were more powerful, and more prosperous.
وَكَمْwakamAnd how manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāwe destroyed / annihilatedقَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore themمِّنminofقَرْنٍqarnina generationهُمْhumthey (were)أَحْسَنُaḥsanubetterأَثَـٰثًاathāthan(in) possessions / luxuriesوَرِءْيًاwari'yanand outward appearance? ﴿٧٤﴾
[19:75] Say, "Those who choose to go astray, the Most Gracious will lead them on, until they see what is promised for them - either the retribution or the Hour. That is when they find out who really is worse off, and weaker in power."
قُلْqulSay,مَنman"Whoeverكَانَkāna[he] wasفِىfīinٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِl-ḍalālati[the] error / astray,فَلْيَمْدُدْfalyamdudthen let [He] extend / reinforceلَهُlahufor him,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most Graciousمَدًّاmaddanan extension / a reinforcement,حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhen [in the future]رَأَوْا۟ra-awthey sawمَاmāwhatيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised,إِمَّاimmāeitherٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe retributionوَإِمَّاwa-immāorٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hour,فَسَيَعْلَمُونَfasayaʿlamūnathen they will knowمَنْmanwhoهُوَhuwa[he] (is)شَرٌّsharrunworstمَّكَانًاmakānan(in) positionوَأَضْعَفُwa-aḍʿafuand weakerجُندًاjundan(in) forces / power." ﴿٧٥﴾
[19:76] GOD augments the guidance of those who choose to be guided. For the good deeds are eternally rewarded by your Lord, and bring far better returns.
وَيَزِيدُwayazīduAnd [He] augmentsٱللَّهُl-lahuGodٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoٱهْتَدَوْا۟ih'tadaw[they] accept guidance,هُدًىhudan(with) guidance.وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُwal-bāqiyātuAnd the eternalٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُl-ṣāliḥātu[the] good deedsخَيْرٌkhayrun(are) betterعِندَʿindaat / in the presence ofرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordثَوَابًاthawāban(for) rewardوَخَيْرٌwakhayrunand betterمَّرَدًّاmaraddan(for) return. ﴿٧٦﴾
[19:77] Have you noted the one who rejected our revelations then said, "I will be given wealth and children"?!
أَفَرَءَيْتَafara-aytaThen have you seenٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one whoكَفَرَkafara[he] disbelievedبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin our verses / revelations,وَقَالَwaqālaand he said,لَأُوتَيَنَّlaūtayanna"Surely I will be givenمَالًاmālanwealthوَوَلَدًاwawaladanand children?" ﴿٧٧﴾
[19:78] Has he seen the future? Has he taken such a pledge from the Most Gracious?
أَطَّلَعَaṭṭalaʿaHas he looked / peered (into)ٱلْغَيْبَl-ghaybathe unseen / future,أَمِamior hasٱتَّخَذَittakhadhahe tookعِندَʿindafromٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousعَهْدًاʿahdana pledge? ﴿٧٨﴾
[19:79] Indeed, we will record what he utters, then commit him to ever-increasing retribution.
كَلَّاkallāNay,سَنَكْتُبُsanaktubuwe will recordمَاmāwhatيَقُولُyaqūluhe says / utters,وَنَمُدُّwanamudduand we extend / increaseلَهُۥlahufor himمِنَminafromٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe retributionمَدًّاmaddanextensively / ever-increasing. ﴿٧٩﴾
[19:80] Then we inherit everything he possessed, and he comes back to us all alone.
وَنَرِثُهُۥwanarithuhuAnd we inherit from himمَاmāwhatيَقُولُyaqūluhe says,وَيَأْتِينَاwayatīnāand he comes to usفَرْدًاfardan(as) an individual / alone. ﴿٨٠﴾
[19:81] They worship beside GOD other gods that may be of help to them.
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟wa-ittakhadhūAnd they tookمِنminfromدُونِdūnibesides ٱللَّهِl-lahiGodءَالِهَةًālihatangods,لِّيَكُونُوا۟liyakūnūthat they may beلَهُمْlahumfor themعِزًّاʿizzanan honor. ﴿٨١﴾
The Idols Disown Their Worshipers
[19:82] On the contrary; they will reject their idolatry, and will be their enemies.
كَلَّاkallāNay,سَيَكْفُرُونَsayakfurūnathey will denyبِعِبَادَتِهِمْbiʿibādatihimin their worship (of them)وَيَكُونُونَwayakūnūnaand they becomeعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimagainst themضِدًّاḍiddanopponents / adversaries / enemies. ﴿٨٢﴾
[19:83] Do you not see how we unleash the devils upon the disbelievers to stir them up?
أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou see,أَنَّآannāthat weأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā[we] sentٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَl-shayāṭīnathe devilsعَلَىʿalāuponٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers,تَؤُزُّهُمْta-uzzuhum[it] inciting themأَزًّاazzaninstigating / (with) incitement. ﴿٨٣﴾
[19:84] Do not be impatient; we are preparing for them some preparation.
فَلَاfalāSo (do) notتَعْجَلْtaʿjal[you] hastenعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimagainst them.إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyنَعُدُّnaʿudduwe count / prepareلَهُمْlahumfor themعَدًّاʿaddana number / preparation. ﴿٨٤﴾
[19:85] The day will come when we summon the righteous before the Most Gracious in a group.
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayنَحْشُرُnaḥshuruwe summonٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous [ones]إِلَىilātoٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousوَفْدًاwafdan(as) a delegation (group). ﴿٨٥﴾
[19:86] And we will herd the guilty to Hell, to be their eternal abode.
وَنَسُوقُwanasūquAnd we will drive / herdٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe guilty onesإِلَىٰilātoجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellوِرْدًاwir'dandescending into / (their) arriving place (abode). ﴿٨٦﴾
[19:87] No one will possess the power to intercede, except those who conform to the laws of the Most Gracious.
لَّاlāNotيَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnathey possess power (of)ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَl-shafāʿatathe intercessionإِلَّاillāexceptمَنِmani(he) whoٱتَّخَذَittakhadhahe tookعِندَʿindafromٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(the) Most Graciousعَهْدًاʿahdana covenant. ﴿٨٧﴾
Gross Blasphemy
[19:88] They said, "The Most Gracious has begotten a son!"
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they said,ٱتَّخَذَittakhadha"[He] took / begotٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most Graciousوَلَدًاwaladana son." ﴿٨٨﴾
[19:89] You have uttered a gross blasphemy.
لَّقَدْlaqadVerily,جِئْتُمْji'tumyou [all] brought / put forthشَيْـًٔاshayana thing إِدًّاiddanexceedingly abominable / gross blasphemy. ﴿٨٩﴾
[19:90] The heavens are about to shatter, the earth is about to tear asunder, and the mountains are about to crumble.
تَكَادُtakādu[It] almostٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُl-samāwātuthe heavensيَتَفَطَّرْنَyatafaṭṭarna[they] shatterمِنْهُmin'hufrom it,وَتَنشَقُّwatanshaqquand [it] splits asunderٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthوَتَخِرُّwatakhirruand [it] falls down ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsهَدًّاhaddancrumble. ﴿٩٠﴾
[19:91] Because they claim that the Most Gracious has begotten a son.
أَنanThatدَعَوْا۟daʿawthey declared / ascribedلِلرَّحْمَـٰنِlilrraḥmānito (the) Most Graciousوَلَدًاwaladana son. ﴿٩١﴾
[19:92] It is not befitting the Most Gracious that He should beget a son.
وَمَاwamāAnd notيَنۢبَغِىyanbaghīit befittingلِلرَّحْمَـٰنِlilrraḥmānifor (the) Most GraciousأَنanthatيَتَّخِذَyattakhidhaHe (should) take / begetوَلَدًاwaladana son. ﴿٩٢﴾
[19:93] Every single one in the heavens and the earth is a servant of the Most Gracious.
إِنinIndeedكُلُّkulluallمَنmanwhoفِىfī(are) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthإِلَّآillābutءَاتِىātī(will) comeٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(to the) Most Graciousعَبْدًاʿabdan(as) a servant. ﴿٩٣﴾
[19:94] He has encompassed them, and has counted them one by one.
لَّقَدْlaqadVerily,أَحْصَىٰهُمْaḥṣāhumHe enumerated / encompassed themوَعَدَّهُمْwaʿaddahumand He counted them,عَدًّاʿaddana counting. ﴿٩٤﴾
[19:95] All of them will come before Him on the Day of Resurrection as individuals.
وَكُلُّهُمْwakulluhumAnd all of themءَاتِيهِātīhi(will) come to Himيَوْمَyawma(on the) Day (of)ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmatithe Resurrectionفَرْدًاfardanalone / (as) an individual. ﴿٩٥﴾
[19:96] Surely, those who believe and lead a righteous life, the Most Gracious will shower them with love.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believedوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand [they] didٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] good deeds,سَيَجْعَلُsayajʿalu[He] will make / bestowلَهُمُlahumufor themٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(the) Most Graciousوُدًّاwuddanaffection / love. ﴿٩٦﴾
[19:97] We thus made this (Quran) elucidated in your tongue, in order to deliver good news to the righteous, and to warn with it the opponents.
فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāSo, onlyيَسَّرْنَـٰهُyassarnāhuwe made it easyبِلِسَانِكَbilisānikain your tongue,لِتُبَشِّرَlitubashirathat you may give good newsبِهِbihiwith it (to)ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous [ones]وَتُنذِرَwatundhiraand [you] warnبِهِۦbihiwith itقَوْمًاqawmana peopleلُّدًّاluddancontentious. ﴿٩٧﴾
[19:98] Many a generation before them we annihilated; can you perceive any of them, or hear from them any sound?
وَكَمْwakamAnd how manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāwe annihilatedقَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore themمِّنminofقَرْنٍqarnina generation?هَلْhalCanتُحِسُّtuḥissuyou perceiveمِنْهُمmin'humof themمِّنْminanyأَحَدٍaḥadinoneأَوْaworتَسْمَعُtasmaʿu[you] hearلَهُمْlahumfrom themرِكْزًۢاrik'zana whisper / sound? ﴿٩٨﴾
